Because November is hard for lots of us, and in particular is something I find hard (my not-quite-month of mourning begins tomorrow, officially); because it's spring in the southern hemisphere and the days just keep getting shorter in the northern; because I talked to my counsellor yesterday about all of the shapes and forms that value takes.

M is the single greatest writer I have ever read. She understands the humans behind the characters, and writes the aftermath of tragedy unflinchingly. She is breathtakingly intelligent, perceptive and witty, unerringly moral and exceptionally kind.
