kaberett: a patch of sunlight on the carpet, shaped like a slightly wonky heart (light hearted)
[personal profile] kaberett
Because November is hard for lots of us, and in particular is something I find hard (my not-quite-month of mourning begins tomorrow, officially); because it's spring in the southern hemisphere and the days just keep getting shorter in the northern; because I talked to my counsellor yesterday about all of the shapes and forms that value takes.

Autumn crocuses growing through a carpet of sweet chestnut husks.

This post will close to new nominations at the end of the month (because November), though I'll keep unscreening comments after that point if any new ones do come in.

♥ Nominate yourself or someone else, anonymously or logged-in, by putting your/their username in the subject line of a comment to this entry. If you do not know for certain the person's preferred pronouns and they do not list them on their DW profile, please use gender neutral pronouns as a default. Other people can then reply to that comment with goopy declarations of love, reasons that person is awesome, sparkly expressions of admiration, etc! All comments are screened, and I'll unscreen them as they arrive. (So, if your comment doesn't appear right away, please be patient; I'll leave my online status at the bottom of this post to keep people updated on whether I'm unscreening or not.)

♥ If you don't want to be nominated, or don't want comments referring to certain things [body/appearance, wrong pronouns, etc] to appear on your thread, please let me know; I won't unscreen any such comment or nomination. If I make a mistake in unscreening something, if you want a comment to your thread unscreened or deleted, if you have any concerns you need to raise -- please just tell me, and I'll attend to it as soon as I can. If there are any inappropriate comments made to a thread, I will check with the person being referred to before unscreening.

♥ Share the love: please do send people over here (and to your own thread!) Words-and-deeds it up if you like, but that's not obligatory!

recessional

M is the single greatest writer I have ever read. She understands the humans behind the characters, and writes the aftermath of tragedy unflinchingly. She is breathtakingly intelligent, perceptive and witty, unerringly moral and exceptionally kind. Reading her journal has made me a better person, and I actually can't imagine who I would have been had I not stumbled across it when I did.

Would very much like to second this. She brings an incredible breadth of life to her characters, and her journal has been helpful to me in a multitude of ways, not to mention knowing there are people like her out there.

As well as being a great writer, she has been a good friend in difficult times, and is wise.

Recessional is a great writer, a thoughtful person, and a good friend. She is compassionate, perceptive and takes no prisoners. I've enjoyed getting to know her in the last few years, and hope to get to know her better over the next few.

I've really enjoyed her take on several fandoms. She thinks very deeply about characters and is good at conveying her understanding of them, either through fic or meta.

I also enjoy it when she goes on a worldbuilding kick, either fannishly or for her original worlds. She's got an excellent world-generator in her brain that produces an extraordinary wealth of detail and complexity. Catnip for the worldbuilding-fan. :)

M's writing is not only fantastic, it's nailbitingly real. M as a person has kicked me in the arse second and thirdhand through her amazing advice and intelligence.

M's fic is thoughtful and deep-diving; her characters jump off the page and into the reader's head.

Her personal posts are equally enlightening and deep, with lessons shared to help others.

I am not going to say more than "what the original anon said" in a public context, but WHAT THE ORIGINAL ANON SAID. Lots.

[personal profile] recessional makes lists and writes about things like airport security and cats and dreams and fanfiction, and it's all mashed together into a life, and sometimes I read and go "yes, me too!" which is wonderful and sometimes I go "never thought of that" which is also wonderful.

She's one of the best writers I've run across in any fandom (as attested by the fact that I first started following her blog after reading a fic of hers for a canon I've never even seen/read). And she seems like an absolutely lovely person as well, smart and perceptive and funny and fierce. <3

M's writing is some of the best I've read, and I am always in awe of the depth of thought and feeling she brings to every characterization, and every word. Her advice has been very helpful to me when I needed it, and although we don't always agree, I am consistently interested in whatever she has to say, and grateful that she has said it. She is great.
