Some time ago, now, we noted (with great sadness) the closure of Vanilla Black in its current form.

And then, a much shorter time ago, A was poking around their twitter to see if there was any news about what they were up to... and found Vanilla Black Cook & Learn. So he paid thirty-five quid, and yesterday a box showed up containing a cauliflower, a courgette, four radishes, a (1) garlic clove, a tub of Oatly cream cheese, and several bags of mysterious powder, and this evening we showed up on Zoom at 6 and 2h15 later we had:

a cauliflower steak
a cauliflower-cheese pastry parcel
courgette ribbons with sultanas
a fascinating wee salad-y thing of radish, tiny raw cauliflower florets, and red cabbage juice

and a lot of washing up, heh. (Which we could probably have managed less of had we known in advance what we were going to be Doing, but such is ever the way.)

It was a lot of fun! I got to play with ingredients (agar agar and Ultratex) I would never normally use! I got an explanation of the crispy custard.

I absolutely definitely think we got £35 of entertainment value out of this, and if it is both your kind of thing and also in your budget I would definitely recommend it as an Experience.

This sounds amazing!
And I had to go read your vanilla black post, and it sounds AMAZING and I'm really sad for something closing that I never even knew open.
What did you do with the agar agar? It is my fave gelling agent.

Also from 2016:
The binary of
"people who think melon is like cucumber but disgusting" and "people who think cucumber is like melon but disgusting".
I am "cucumber and melon are kind of similar and they are both GREAT" XD XD XD
