Reading. Jackalope Wives & Other Stories, T. Kingfisher. I particularly enjoyed the juxtaposition of Wooden Feathers and Editing. Excellent choice for reading in short breaks between thesis chunks. Much appreciated.

Writing. Chapter 4 is... done? more or less? I sent it off and so far all the comments I've had have been "you need two more figures" and "you need another table" so fingers crossed no more substantive words required. This week: chapter 5. Wish me luck.

Watching. CXG S02E03. I have A LOT of thoughts around the ways Paula and Rebecca are mirroring each other, in that neither of them is approaching pregnancy rationally or as though it involves a potential whole new person or anything, as opposed to... well, how they do treat it; parallels between Josh and Paula both Wanting Things from Rebecca and happy to manipulate her into providing them while it fits their narratives (regardless of how it intersects with hers) and totally failing to recognise the ways in which they're being unfair or unkind to her and for all that she absolutely does fuck up, they owe her apologies too.

Barbie as Rapunzel, because the cousins and I are participating in an ongoing Hostage Exchange as neatly summarised by the current title of our group chat, namely, Direct to video children's entertainment circa 2000, which is also why we watched Bonkle 1 the other week. (We now have the boxset, so Bonkles 2 and 3 are... looming. In my future.) Honestly this was weirdly compelling, and not just because it felt like an extended cutscene with horrifying uncanny-valley horses.

(My first contribution to this project is probably going to be The Swan Princess (1994), which I... was extremely autistic about, as a small, which technically had a theatrical release BUT IN MY DEFENCE it apparently had ten direct-to-video sequels, so, you know, that's me sorted.)

Listening. Some BNL, and I gotta say (re CXG): Greg fanvids (at least for S1/opening of S2) to Next Time and -- especially! -- Second Best. Would be perfect. Do they exist? Do I... have to learn to vid?

Also: Vienna Teng, who did a livestream gig last night, and it was great.

Playing. ... dragons, a lot; the horn, barely.

Eating. The internet brought us food! It turns out that Wagamama are doing a vegetarian main course I can get enthusiastic about again! It is essentially sweet-and-sour sticky tofu with a shittonne of chilli, and I am here for that.

Observing. I continue not Great at sleep, which on the plus side means I've had more opportunities to Get Yelled At By An Owl, which is pretty great. And: we are definitely cold enough that we're getting proper queues at the bird feeder, which I am finding enormously distracting but in the best possible way.

The Swan Princess (1994),

This the one with Odette? 'Cause if it is, Brent is mad for that. He hunts down memes for it and tries to tell me about it.

I like bird feeders. And owls. And enjoying T. Kingfisher (aware not everyone's jam, but very much mine).

I am happy for you about food. And dragons. And concert. I am YAY GOOD JOB at you for continued thesis-writing. I am sorry that Everything Covid and not great sleep. Also :) Swan Princess; I thinked I watched the thing on video as a small but I don't remember, it might be popcultural osmosis at work.

We have a really loud owl as well. It's astonishing how loud they can be.

May your thesis words pour out but never leave drip marks.
