Writing. Thesis progress: recompiled a bunch of data and did some processing of it (into figures) for Chapter 2; need, alas, to do More. Have made a start on rearranging my 2018 paper into chapter shape, but keep tripping up on how best to organise it without repetition. I think, however, I'm coming to the conclusion that my examiners can cope with a little repetition.

Watching. CXG, which we also watched last week, which I totally failed to mention, but anyway we've now had S01E15 "Josh Has No Idea Where I Am!" I was so caught up in the excellent Friendship Feelings and Therapy Feelings and Oh Paula No that it wasn't until like ten minutes after the end of the episode that I went "... OH" because, like, in spite of Peter obviously = Greg and That Douche obviously = Josh, I was way too distracted to notice that the musical = West Covina and that the key point of this episode was Rebecca choosing differently.

So, you know, I sincerely hope the answer to "... are you in love with me?" is "... I thought I was, but... no, actually." WE'Ll SEE, EH.

I had more thoughts on last episode too, but... it's late and thesis, so.

Also: watch 4 (or possibly 3.5) of The Old Guard (2020), in which I am still noticing new things that make me squeal, and good grief their faces. Cannot tell if desperate for sequel or terrified it will be Bad.

Listening. TMA 184. Content note: insects. I was about ten minutes in before the Insects Everywhere Itching Forever started! I had in fact thought "huh, I'm doing pretty well, I normally don't have problems with the Hive episodes but this seems more likely than usual to trigger--" and there we went.

Elsewise: see, that's interesting, isn't it. Both the choice Jon made and the part where it's -- sort of -- the one Helen kept wanting him to make, to Be A Monster and Stop Trying To Be Ethical so she could forgive herself for the choices she's made. And on the one hand he didn't, because he was asked for help by name role, and provided the only help he could -- and on the other, the grim resignation-relief at Jordan not being willing to choose otherwise.

Also Noteworthy, to me: Jon being willing, despite everything, to land them in the Buried if it would make Martin happier and more comfortable. Which. JON. JON.

Playing. PoGo. I am a massive fan of the weird patchwork Gengar we got today, I must say. Also the Litwick-hat-wearing Sableye! And pleased to have got a decent-IVs Galarian Farfetch'd, and I'm also sort of delighted with the Galarian Ponyta.

Riven. Mmm, I was... really disappointed by how little the female character this was theoretically about actually featured, and how much it was actually more All The Men All The Time, and how much even if you decide your player character is female you only barely maybe wind up with a Bechdel pass, which is to say nothing of the, uh, dubious racial etc.

We also ended up using the UHS a bunch more. While we identified a bunch of the puzzle piece, we had a much harder time working out how to put them together than we did in Myst; we were also mildly grumpy about the number of places we were teased with that weren't, actually, possible to explore.

Flight Rising. AAAAAAAH pixel dragons. Currently very much my Happy Place, not least because I have worked out a Breeding Project (tl;dr what if: dragons, but semi-precious stones). I have spent some very pleasant afternoon breaks noodling around designing dragons and acquiring potential progenitors for breeding lines, and I am happy and excited about the this. (Also I now have my Bestiary over 10% complete! So that's nice.)

Cooking. Another tiny roast, with a more useful quantity of new potatoes (slightly smoked, whoops) and, this time, toad-in-the-hole. Also a plum-and-apple pie, plus crust for a quiche or tart of some ilk that I should probably freeze but that will definitely be dinner at some point this week. (I have a meal plan through to Thursday, so, probably Thursday.)

Eating. A made me more cookies. <3 Another handful of raspberries from the allotment.

Creating. Bleached & painted A! Currently convinced it'll all turn out terribly, but we'll see how I'm doing by tomorrow evening (by which point the dye will have been rinsed out & his hair will have had a chance to dry.)

Growing. Made it to the allotment only once, today, by being driven there, but: I've pulled up and chopped up and stuck into the compost the rest of the (blighted) outdoor tomatoes. I've picked probably another half-kilo of viable tomatoes (to be weighed... tomorrow). I've pulled up more carrots and beetroot and new Charlotte potatoes (focussing on the ones that were blighted); we've eaten more squash; I need to work out when to actually harvest the Gigantes that exist (though probably I have enough to grow more for next year and very little else); I got a brave shallot from the pantry-bag plus half a dozen cloves of garlic into the ground, and with any luck they'll take.

The holy basil was slightly shocked by being brought home and indoors (having been in the greenhouse), but seems to be recovering itself adequately.

I'm feeling much better about the state of the allotment now the tomatoes are up -- oh, and also I pulled up a lot of the done-and-finished-with corn, though I haven't yet chopped that for compost. It's much more in a place where I can, give-or-take the weeds, now feel okay about pretty much Leaving It until I am More Done With Thesis, except for harvesting.

I am still completely baffled about what on Earth happened to all the root veg other than the purple carrots, though.

I was talking to my Polish neighbour about composting yesterday, his English is mostly great, but occasionally he can't find the right word, particularly with new areas. I was charmed when he described the process as "once the leaves have melted".
I've heard of compost heaps running hot, but that seems excessive ;)

While you're doing first draft of thesis-as-thesis (rather than thesis-via-papers), I think it's fine to leave some repetition there. You can always edit it a little bit later, when you can read the thesis as a whole, and see what's happening at the larger scale.

I'm really loving the Halloween challenges/research tasks on Pokemon Go and so pleased with Patchwork Gengar.
