... and that's two weeks running I've left on an actually pleasant endorphin high and absolutely no sense that I've done myself any harm whatsoever.

I don't remember this happening in about a decade.

I think what's happened is that my small stabilising muscles have just-about managed to catch up with my large-muscle strength sufficient that the latter are actually working, and also I'm starting to be able to hit cardio that even vaguely engages my cardiovascular system without completely fucking my knee up.

Gosh but it's nice to be getting measurable progress, and to be leaving the gym feeling good, and to have finally had health workers believe me about my body and tell me how to look after it.

This was really motivational from someone who is going through something similar (I am in my first week). A friend pulled me aside after a stint of some mental health breakdowns and told me about the power of just getting out and moving. It started with walking around my neighbourhood, which has now morphed into hitting the gym and cardio. And I am starting to feel my body respond positively and that is helping my mental outlook. Thanks for sharing your experience. :-)

Glad the gym professionals are helpful!

I don't really get endorphins - I'm glad that you do!

A wonderful feeling indeed.

I've been slowly building up hand weights. I'm up to three sets of 6 reps x 6 pounds. I'm amazed at how much easier it is to open the jars, and I'm getting two more lengths in my allotted swim time.

SMALL STEPS WORK.

I looooooove exercise endorphins. I never got them from running, but get them all the time from karate because apparently punching/kicking things/grabbing people + cardio does it. I am also a bit terrified that at some point my mild bendiness + very easy bruising will cause enough trouble that I will have to stop, because this is the only exercise that I have ever genuinely liked. (I am on the borderline for EDS hypermobility, and I am being stupid and just sticking my head in the sand about it and going la la la. This is possibly okay because I have never had any EDS subluxations in 30 years of life.)

Very pleased to hear that there is progress and it is not being erased by setbacks. Hooray for actual professionals giving real, actual, working advice.
