- ... a pair of smart black trousers that more-or-less fit me, which was the entire point of the outing and was the very last thing I found in the very last shop I tried.
- a copy of Perfumes: the A-Z guide for the princely sum of £1.99, which I would be delighted to pass on as a gift to anyone who wants it and Doesn't Currently Have One (one of the things I do when I'm feeling sad is dip into it for Snark)
- The Oxford Book of Legal Anecdotes, because
me_and expressed interest when I sent him a photo of it (which I thought he would, I just wasn't sure it would be enough interest to override the Too Many Books To Read Already) - Karen Armstrong's memoir
- a lavender-scented suspicious microwave ferret, I don't even know, it is My New Best Friend, what on earth (and in totally failing to find an example online so I wouldn't have to take a decent photo I instead found a suspicious microwave SLOTH HUG HOODIE)
- um
- another pasta machine
- IT'S OKAY I PROMISE
- it was bought on spec for a local Pokemon Go friend who wants it to help her make elaborate fondant icing masterpieces
- it was £7.50 and is bright red and Jamie Oliver and she's very pleased
- I promise I'm not keeping this one too

Date: 2017-11-13 11:02 pm (UTC)Which is why A's pillow-in-an-owl is referred to, by me and latterly also by him, as the "suspicious microwave owl", and given that I've now added to that a ferret and am strongly considering a sloth and possibly a bear wearing a terrible jumper...

Date: 2017-11-13 08:45 pm (UTC)This is a kind and excellent thought; it's such a great book for dipping into, especially when one's attention span has been fried by brainweasels or other factors.

an Abacus, a Bulldozer, a Clefairy, a Dromedary
Date: 2017-11-14 07:50 am (UTC)#TIL: they're called "charity shops" in England. They're op shops here, short for "opportunity shop".
Which Karen Armstrong memoir? If it's Through the Narrow Gate, it's very good but heavy tw for disordered eating as well as the religious abuse and scrupulosity stuff one might expect from the blurb.
A professionally manufactured suspicious microwave ferret, then, not someone's handmade suspicious microwave animal?

Date: 2017-11-14 04:17 pm (UTC)The Spiral Staircase, which I think is less TW forever? (I think I previously found TtNG in a charity shop at a point when I wasn't up for handling the ED stuff so didn't get it, but this looks Less Like That, so.)
It appears to be professionally manufactured, I just can't find anyone willing to admit to it online.

Date: 2017-11-14 06:14 pm (UTC)I haven't read The Spiral Staircase, but she's a good writer.
That's fascinating and odd about the suspicious microwavable animal.
My suspicious microwave menagerie has only one animal, but it makes up for this by being a rainbow unicorn. (It came from KMart, and I looked at the tag and found that website. I am now gazing covetously at the robot one, even though the unicorn one doesn't heat very well.

It turns out it’s hard to raise a sceptical eyebrow when you’ve burst out laughing, who knew?
