HUITIEME ART - CIEL D'AIRAIN

So the idea is that this one smells like an orchard after rain: the given notes are pear wood, fruit notes, olive branch, ambergris.

To me, in the vial, this is a crisp-and-watery but unmistakable pear layered over the definite woods-and-ambergris. On me, it starts out slightly smoky apple peel intruding over the pear; and then very rapidly turns into apple-and-pear over warm damp soil and drying bark. I can see myself wearing this a lot in early autumn, but it's probably not going to get much play before then -- it's a bit season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, and also she's glad her simple worsted grey/is silver now with clinging mist.

SERGE LUTENS - FEMININITE DU BOIS

ginger, cinnamon, clove, plum, peach, orange blossom, violet, cedar, sandalwood, vanilla, benzoin

Acquired because of another [personal profile] rydra_wong write-up - though note that I have the reformulated version, minus the beeswax and plus vanilla.

In the vial, this is clove+ginger+sandalwood to me. Wet, we're at pure clove, though cinnamon joins it within 30 seconds; and then on the point of drying it turns into delicious baked spiced peaches, with vanilla, and a slightly odd edge to the food-scent from the cedar+sandalwood. [personal profile] rydra_wong is bang on that this isn't fresh fruit, but I don't think it's quite dried or stewed (at least, not stewed to the point of collapse) - because the, yes, austere woods-and-resins make it feel like it's still toothsome, still got structural integrity, so maybe poached at the most, from my view, with the orange blossom whispering over the top. Ginger is making its appearance at about the five-minute mark, but it's restrained: mulling-spices rather than overwhelming. And, oh wow, this is delicious, with the fruits becoming more & more assertive as it warms up; a bit too heavy for me to wear in summer, I think, but I am going to remain delighted by this for as long as it keeps sodding hailing, and look forward to making its acquaintance properly as next winter starts.

And it doesn't smell at all like olbas oil on the skin, which I was a bit concerned about, given how it started!

Still to go I've got Tauer Orange Star & Lonestar Memories, and Knize Ten, but I'm not particularly feeling in the mood for any of those today (LM turns into WD40 on me - it's hilarious but I'd like to write it up properly) so you get the theoretically femme scents today. ;)

The Serge Lutens sounds wonderful-your review reminds me of how Comme des Garcons (original EdeP) smells to me, minus your fruit and flower notes.

Oh yes, definitely. It's not watery or squishy. I'm thinking of things like Agen prunes, maybe.

When Lutens left Shiseido to set up on his own, he started a series of variations on Femininite de Bois, each of which plays up a different element. So, Bois de Violette, Bois et Musc, etc.. If you like this best when the fruits come to the forefront, Bois et Fruits could be relevant to your interests ...

(Les Senteurs doesn't seem to have it, but I've seen it in Liberty's.)
