Via divers alarums and excursions we have established that the oven seems to trip All The Electrics... when it hits A Certain Temperature. So you'll turn it on, and it will all seem to be fine, and then it will be nearly up to temperature (-- I just had a moment over Is It The Temperature Indicator LED, BUT no in fact it did run fine for things that were not bread the other morning so it probably is really a temperature threshold thing--) and suddenly Nothing Has Electrons Any More. And you'll go "hmm", and poke things a bit, and eventually turn the oven back on because you're still not sure it's that that's causing the problem, and it will seem to all be working fine, and then you will be nearly ready to put the bread in and--

so the loaf of sourdough I was intending to bake this morning is, as a one-off, in the bread machine, which I have excavated from the bottom of a wardrobe.

A has been gently agitating to Redo The Kitchen and isn't exactly wrong but also I am Preemptively Exhausted at the idea of working out a kitchen remodel, and the amount of time and energy and People In My Space it will take, while the scaffolding for the new roof! is still! up! (because Shenanigans Have Ensued such that even though the roof itself is finished the scaffold needs to stay up because more different people are going to need to go up there to do Things...) And never mind the cost, though in fact my contribution would likely mostly come out of The Mortgage Tracker Spreadsheet rather than needing to be supplied in readies.

But. BUT. Today I SAW THE BAT for the first time this year (having been doing a questionable job of actually managing to watch for it at bat o'clock over the last several weeks); and my Special Interest In Moving My Body went surprisingly well; and A curled up on the sofa and did some more Reading About Special Interest with me; and I am actually doing alright.

It may just need a new heating element rather than a while new oven.

We ripped out our old kitchen and put in a new one when we lived in Rampton, did all the work ourselves. That included all the plumbing and electrics, knocking down a bit of wall, putting in a slate floor and installing new appliances. It took us a while to get it all done, and we managed to schedule a weekend where all the functionality got disconnected in its old form and was up in a usable form by the end of Sunday.

As for tripping things, not quite the same, but the oven element blew on the evening of Christmas Eve one year. That's when I discovered that the oven had a top element which we'd never used, and served well enough to cook the Christmas meal the following day. I ordered a new element from Amazon and fitted it when it arrived a couple of days later.

Also heat related, an electric kiln at somewhere over 1000°C would leak enough electrons to trip the RCD. I even put a meter in series with the earth lead and watched the current rise as it got hotter.
