I am okay. Tired and a bit anxious and not getting as much done as I ~should~ (hahahaha) but I am trying to deal with anxiety-mail and self-soothe about The Things I Can't Change.
(oh wow, that is...that is terrible ugh. And terrible isn't even an ugh enough word for it. I am so sorry. *offers hugs*)
self-soothing is good.
I am hugging a border terrier foster dog alot (spelling a'purpose), watching her watch squirrels in the back garden, and also self-soothing. Also snuggling with partner and celebrating the fact that she is insured for the first time in a decade.
I've got a lot of patience for the project as a whole - I think it's doing good and important stuff. (I haven't dared actually watch my segment in detail because I hate my voice, but also because I will instantly start shredding everything I said.)
Throughout the trailer, though, it was odd how much time the camera spent gazing at parts of people's bodies other than their faces while they were talking. As someone who had to learn how to make appropriate eye contact the hard way, I felt as though I was being really rude!
Hah! And as someone who tends to lip-read a lot in order to do auditory processing, I'd probably also find it very hard [if I could face watching it] - a thing I'm finding really interesting is how many of you are appreciating hearing my voice. Some definite work on self-image to do there, I think :-)
I love your voice - is that weird? I'd like to listen to you speak just because your voice is lovely. :D
Otoh, the way the camera could NOT focus on a person's face is not only hugely distracting, it draws attention where the speakers might not be comfortable with, which kinda made me feel a bit uncomfortable.
Also, it's insanely hard to tell what everyone was saying because I can't read off-camera lips (haha, obviously) and the video had no CC.
Urgh, yeah, I have asked them about transcripts/captioning and not got anywhere :-( And not had the spoons to do transcripts myself - especially not of my own section, because I really loathe my voice, so it's been really useful to hear so many people saying "that's nice! I like that thing!" because it... really draws attention to some work I need to do on self-acceptance!
...ha. First viewing I totally missed that it was you, just saw it as a link to "hey a thing on trans people that includes a disabled person". I r smrt. :D
:D Glad you enjoyed! (I haven't dared watch because I still really hate my voice. That is a thing I think I need to work on in terms of body acceptance.)
my ridiculous collection of shoes along the wall by my door has THREE PAIRS OF DOCS (one pair as per that video, one pair of pink-velour-trimmed mid-calf black lace-ups, and one pair of knee-high slightly-heeled distressed-teal)
I like getting to see/hear you, since I'm not likely to do so IRL for a long time, and I was happy that the video included your explanation about authenticity vs. being a "good little cripple" and that bullshit.
Fetishizing of wheelchair totally problematic, though, and I can understand even aside from that that it would be weird to surprise! be on Buzzfeed.

Date: 2014-02-05 02:39 pm (UTC)as I've said elsewhere, I think I probably really need to work on the bit where I loathe the sound of my own voice.
And very very glad you liked that bit <3
