(Incidentally, the Southbank Centre also contains a POETRY LIBRARY. I finally got around to going in on Weds night and it is GLORIOUS and I am signing up on Saturday and then borrowing ALL THE BOOKS.)

Feb 19 (Weds): London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), conducted by Osmo Vaenskae with Marc-Andre Hamelin on the piano, play Balakirev (Islamey, oriental fantasy), Khachaturian piano concerto, Kalinnikov Symphony no 1.

Feb 25 (Tues): Quator Mosaiques ("leading period-instrument string quartet") play Hayden op76no3 (Emperor), Mozart K458 (The Hunt), Schubert D804 (Rosamunde).

Feb 26 (Weds): LPO conducted by Vladimir Jurowski; violin: Julia Fischer; cello: Daniel Mueller-Schott; play Brahms double for violin & cello, and Bruckner no 2.

Mar 1 (Sat): Nikolaj Znaider (violin) and Robert Kulek (piano) play Beethoven op30no3, Stravinsky Divertimento from The Fairy's Kiss, Brahms Scherzo in C minor for violin & piano, Brahms violin sonata no3.

Mar 2 (Sun): Nelson Freire (piano) plays Beethoven WoO.57, Op111; Rachmaninov A Whole Bunch Of Preludes From op32; Schumann Carnaval op9.

Mar 7 (Fri): LPO conducted by Ilyich Rivas; piano: Simon Trpceski; play Dvorak Scherzo capriccioso, Tchaik piano concerto no1, Mahler Andante from symphony no1, Shostakovich symphony #1.

  • Mar 14 (Fri): Feinstein Ensemble - flute, violin, cello, harpsichord. Trio Sonata in G, BWV.1038; Sonata in E minor for flute & continuo, BWV.1034; Trio Sonata in C, BWV.1037; Sonata in G for violin & continuo, BWV.1021; Trio Sonata in G, BWV.1039.
    Robin Bigwood (harpsichord) plays Toccatas BWV913, BWV912, BWV915.
  • Mar 15 (Sat): THE WELL TEMPERED KLAVIER BOOK TWO on the... harpsichord, obviously. Player is Steven Devine. All day thing, split into two sections (one morning, one afternoon).
  • Mar 16 (Sun): Feinstein Ensemble (violin, violin, viola, cello, harpsichord) play The Art of Fugue, BWV1080.


Mar 18 (Tue): Tippett Quartet play Hayden (op103), Mozart (K546), Janacek (no2 Intimate Letters THIS DUDE), Schubert (D810).

Apr 10 (Thurs): Philharmonia Orhcestra conducted by Jakub Hrusa; violin: Arabella Steinbacher; play Janacek (Overture, Jealousy), Vorak (Violin Concerto), Suk (op26), Janacek (Sinfonietta), preceded by a free concert including More Janacek.

Apr 12 (Sat): LPO conductred by Andrey Boreyko; violin: Julian Rachlin; play Tansman (Stele in memoriam Igor Stravinsky), Stravinsky (Violin concerto in D), Gorecki (Symphony #4, world premiere).

Apr 25 (Fri): Isabelle Faust (violin), Jean-Guihen Queyras (cello), Alexander Melnikov (piano) play Hayden Hob.XV/24, Beethoven op70no2, Schumann op110.

Vaenskae for Vänskä seems really weird. This makes his name seem much more Germanic than it is (Vänskä is Finnish, and the former musical director of the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra).
