Writing. Job application... continues. I am expecting another migraine this week so I might well take them up on requesting an extension on when my application is due For Reasons Of Disability.

Watching. Orphan Black S05E07. Rachel.

CXG S03E11. I am especially having Feelings, with regard to this episode, about the bit where an established female character just cheerfully and matter-of-factly became Extremely Visibly Queer and Expressing Physical Affection About It and... it didn't feel like a big deal to me. It didn't stand out! I didn't cry with gratitude! So now I get to be grateful for that particular meta-reaction.

I also, to be clear, think it was really well done -- like, I typed "IS THIS FLIRTING" into the livechat Prior To On-Screen Confirmation, so pace grumbly internet commenters at the time this first aired I think it was extremely clearly flagged both in the episode itself and over the entire rest of the arc, BUT HEY.

Other than that, I am mostly at: oh Rebecca. Oh Nathaniel. Oh darlings. <3

Playing. Two rounds of Splendor with A! One of which I won comprehensively (because A has not been sleeping well this week), and one of which he won comprehensively, which is a nice split. :-p

Cooking. More of the caramelised onion & butternut squash tart, using most of the other half of the pastry from last week's lemon & passion fruit meringue tart. This time we halved the quantity of cheese (2:1 cheddar:fake parmesan) and I think that massively improved it. Also v much enjoyed having caramelised red onions with a little balsamic instead of following the recipe as written, so writing up my own version is Yet To Come.

The ends of the pastry got turned into cheese straws.

And I got my act together to make "self-saucing passion fruit pudding with cardamom yoghurt", courtesy of the free Waitrose 2021 calendar. We like it a lot; I'm going to spend a bit more time tweaking before I write the recipe up here (or at least that is my Noble Intention) but it is Very Tasty and we are Extremely Pro.

Eating. Some more red sweetcorn and purple beans from the allotment! One (1) jalapeño!

Making & mending. I am delighted to report that refilling my Sakura Pigma Micron pens with tiny quantities of my (sample) of Sailor Kiwa-Guro ink (black, "nano-pigment", fountain pen friendly) has wound up working very well, once it actually worked its way through to the nib! I am very pleased about this and will continue wrangling such pens in this fashion until I finally destroy their tips (or, I suppose, I switch entirely to fountain pens...)

Not yet mending: I have now convinced myself that the washing machine is smelling suspiciously of burning during spin cycles, particularly. We are... going to do some investigation and then maybe Ask Someone To Come Into Our House.

Growing. The squash I have brought home to speculatively attempt overwintering is doing fine so far, but needs potting up. The strawberry runners I coaxed into pots are all doing great. The basil also very much needs potting up, hurrah. What else what else? OH. PARSLEY. MY PARSLEY IS FINALLY ACTUALLY GROWING VIGOROUSLY AGAIN. This is very exciting, by which I mean "boiled carrots with a little butter and some very fresh parsley will often make me cry because Good Important Correct".

A took me to the allotment on Saturday, hence the sweetcorn & beans; I am wincing slightly at The State Of My Beds but on the upside I pulled up a bunch of tiny buddleia and A has now replanted them, some in the current snail terrarium and some in (or, well, soon to be in) the viv we liberated from my brother's room in Cambridge.

Observing. Have not spotted the bat this week. Have, however, observed a bunch of tortrix-moth-I-think caterpillars and cocoons in the process of wrangling two big bags of bay leaves we picked up from my mother last time we were in Cambridge. Which was fun!

Neuland pens are designed to be refillable and have replaceable nibs - obviously they want people to use their refill inks but I know people have successfully experimented with fountain pen inks. Their Fine. One Sketch is very similar to the Sakura Pigma Micron (I have no idea if there is any way to fit replacemen5 Neuland nibs to the Sakuras - prolly not)

Sympathy in advance for the migraine, and that's entirely sensible for the application.
