As well as prompting me to do regular physio, drink enough water, etc? I've realised that "make something" is an awesome power-up for me to stick in SuperBetter. I do feel calmer when I've made something. Here is a list of things I can make or do relatively easily:
  1. flapjack or chocolate chip cookies (which in addition to being relatively quick and easy mean that I have Guaranteed Snacks for the next day!)
  2. write some code
  3. bread (with the breadmaker, yes, but I still make decisions about what should be in there - tonight's is walnut and rosemary - and actually I'm not very interested in undermining myself by claiming that using tools to reduce pain "doesn't count", so that bit of my brain can shut up, hi everyone I'm back from that little bit now)
  4. a couplet (or more!) of poetry
  5. a sentence (or more!) of one of the unfinished fics I have cluttering up my hard drive
  6. a row (or more!) of knitting
  7. an essay (or blog post or article!) on one of the many topics I've got lined up
  8. a pattern for a craft design (for example, working out a knitting pattern e.g. the the Pabu hat I am plotting vaguely)
  9. a recipe for future experimentation (e.g. for the ridiculous pie-in-the-sky conFusion restaurant, the concept of "three cabbages" - red cabbage with clove and apple, kimchi, and idek choi sum with ginger and sesame, or an actually-tasty coleslaw, or something: need to work out flavour balances!)
  10. music: singing or writing or playing

I know you all make stuff. I'd love to hear what - please have at it in comments! Nothing is too small, and everything counts. <3

I make stories and to-do lists. The stories get done, the to-do lists never do... XD

Right now I'm working on infinite baby yarn things -- hats and a blanket. The blanket needs to be finished soon -- Player 3 is arriving imminently. The hats are for out of town friends, and those just need to be posted. (And one of them also requires a big sibling gift, for which I am still waffling -- more yarn or something colored/painted/doodled?)

Wow, thanks for the link to SuperBetter! *rubs hands together* It looks like exactly what I need—life-coaching not attached to a kindly concerned face! and accessible whenever I need it! Hurrah!

I make pseudo Korean hot pot and knitted mitts.

It's part of my self-image that I don't really make things, and I feel bad about that. If we count writing, well, I do have my blog and sometimes I write a post that catches people's imagination, a few people or a lot of people. That's about the closest I get to making or creating. I can cook a few dishes which are nutritious and reasonably pleasant to eat, but I'm not much good at cooking. Everything else I do doesn't cause any tangible stuff to come into existence, I find things out by doing experiments, I teach, I work with communities.

  • knitting something

  • spinning yarn, or plying yarn together

  • reading about future craft projects

  • baking something delicious (most recent project was "Espresso Fudge Chip Brownies" aka "PMS brownies")

  • free machine embroidery

  • sewing something

  • making earrings (rare)

  • collage (rare, but becoming less rare)

  • writing snail mail (which I consider an art form)

  • going "frell this pattern" and striking out on my own (for better or for worse)

  • yoga or dancing

SPIN SPIN SPIN.

There is no right or wrong, only lack of stamps. :D (Although I do totally know what you mean, that blank page, and then crossing off what you have written because it seems silly/weird/etc...)

I've seen your various mentions of SuperBetter and I finally checked it out today. I have a very good feeling about it. :)

I make decent Thai curry and am slowly learning how to cook chicken without submerging it in liquid.

Ooh, nice idea. (I use SuperBetter but have been studiously ignoring it while illness has been cranking itself up to the higher numbers of the scale.) Things I do that could count as 'making':

- blogging
- beading (made some cute prayer beads recently)
- painting (not well, but still)
- making pancakes
- putting g/f bread ingredients in the breadmaker (this may not quite pass for 'making')
- making cupcakes, cookies etc

And on a really bad day, I could always add 'tea' to the list...
