Sometime around the end of May, I stopped taking continuous mefenamic acid (to see what, if any, effect it had) and therefore also stopped taking continuous omeprazole 20mg.

This was absolutely fine up until second plague vaccine, where I spent the first day post-vaccination with nausea that turned into acid reflux, so I took another couple of days of omeprazole, which sorted me out.

Following some dubious photosensitivity and, yes, nausea, at about the right time to be a migraine (with no headache ever actually eventuating), I wound up taking another week's worth of omeprazole beginning on the 21st of June.

Again, I was fine up until... Friday, when migraine prodrome nausea resolved into... more acid reflux.

Working hypothesis: my stomach is mostly coping with Stopping The Drug right up until something else upsets it, at which point I kick over into the charmingly-named "rebound gastric acid hypersecretion". Evidence (as reviewed by Targownik 2018; another version) suggests that I might be less likely to experience this if I taper off more slowly, so the plan is 20mg every other day for two weeks, followed by twice a week for two weeks.

On the grounds that this sounds much more pleasant than slowly sipping solutions of sodium bicarbonate in water at 1am, it is now The Plan.

(Annoyingly Good GP has moved out of London, and booking phone appointments with the practice as a whole for chronic rather than acute conditions is miserable and also I am doing New Doctor Nerves, so I am intending to keep muddling gently along by myself for at least a little longer. :-p)
