kaberett: a dalek stands at the foot of a flight of stairs, thinking "fuck." (dalek)

(Previously.)

Things I have now managed: applying the rotary tool to the bike for a second time (to deal with all the rust that inexplicably developed after I did the first set of abrasions and then left it sitting in the rain for a week...), and covered up with primer. Tomorrow: paint.

Alas, my go-to London bike shop has (uncharacteristically) not replied to the inquiry e-mail I sent about parts and whether they could post them to me, so I think (it now being nearly three weeks on) that probably I need to actually apply my own executive function to trying to source all the bits. Which I am therefore copying out here, for ease of reference and in case any of you wish to advise me on search terms.

The bike itself: is a Pointer Horizon, purchased circa 2010, with 28" wheels.

I need:
  • a replacement inner wire for the (Shimano) front brake cable (which I think is straightforward)
  • replacement stays for the front mudguard (one side of them got pretty badly bent at some point, but the mudguard itself is fine); still very ??? at how to look this up
  • a bike helmet (head circumference 60cm) (straightforward)
  • ideally a spare key for an AXA Solid lock (additional text: ART (R); five small circles on the left with stars in the top two; on the right 4002, reading downwards) (which I think additionally has a serial number on it that I... should step outside and copy down tomorrow for further research purposes, okay) eta OKAY, doable! -- oh. hmm. or not. because the number on the lock doesn't translate. apparently. :|

I have been considering paying one of the we-come-to-you cycle repair humans to come deal with the cables on my bike, so it would be fairly straightforward to get them to look at yours at the same time.

Sure, but I would expect given advance warning they could get the appropriate parts!

I tend to use use St John's Street Cycles for most bike parts, and Hollandbikeshop for things SJS doesn't have.

For the price, I would probably replace the AXA lock rather than try to find a spare key, unless you can just take the existing key to Timpson's or similar to be copied.

I have found you can't buy mudguard stays, just mudguards (with stays), butgood luck. SJS are pricey but good, wiggle often have more common things cheaper.
