Are any of you at (... or in conversation with people associated with...) Colombia? Because I'm trying to track down a copy of a thesis, and so far the best I've come up with is "pay Colombia forty bucks", which I'm a little aggrieved about given that all I want is one data table (probably). Looks like Colombia members ought to be able to get a copy for free.

ETA all sorted! In less than five minute, and it took me 45 to notice, the internet is great and so are people <3

Yep! The PDF is in my Downloads folder, where should I send it?

Can I just say how much I love that we can do this for one another?

Academic gatekeeping can die in a fire. A volcano, given the research in question!

having done grad school in the 80s and written my diss in the early 90s, I can support this a lot. Nothing quite like waiting and hoping you get a grant to pay for a plane ticket or that a somewhat local (where local is 500 miles or so) has the microfilm (do you remember microfiche?) you need ... or wiring money to the Bodleian and then waiting for Royal Mail to get a package of almost unreadable photocopies to you?

Screw academic gatekeeping indeed. And I'm a humanities person. If I were a science person I'd be even more adamant.

Ah, I see someone has solved it. I was going to suggest 'email the author'.

Popocatepetl is probably my favourite given your recent posts. Failing that, Etna is relatively accessible from the UK.
