1. This evening, for dinner, I had excellent gyoza and ramen at Tonkotsu, along with a Very Nice cocktail that Adam also liked in despite of its containing bourbon, which he mostly doesn't enjoy in cocktails. (And yuzu liqueur, and something something black sesame). This was particularly delightful because I'd picked it as most-relevant-to-our-interests off a map of places-to-eat near...

2. ... a friend's leaving-the-country drinks (they won a visa in a Canadian lottery for Dashing Young Professionals), which A very kindly accompanied (and indeed chauffeured) me to. Where in despite of the reserved table being inaccessible, my friend spent some time down on the main floor with us and I got to actually catch up with them some -- it has been far too long -- and I got to tell a few stories of their misspent youth; and as more of their invitees filtered in we ended up at a table with some excellent Elder Queers talking theatre and volunteering and history and diversity networks and How We Met, and it was lovely.

3. Paperwork achieved this week: parking space application! ... a whole bunch of council tax refund I wasn't expecting! Sent off the request to have my student loan written off on the grounds of disability. Oh, right, and the Ridiculous Sum Of Money from the DWP showed up.

4. In the post this week: a canvas knife roll, for Transport Of Decently Sharp Knives to Holiday Destinations Within The UK, especially the one where I'm coordinating catering for a group; a brush roll, such that I can more reasonably transport my botanical illustrations places should I thus desire.

5. Positive and cheerful supervisor meeting, yesterday: I had been feeling like I Hadn't Really Got Much Done, but we had a lively discussion including exchanging opinions on some recently-published papers, discussing optimal programming languages to teach undergraduate geologists, Interest And Enthusiasm in the bits I had got done (which included several fiddly sections I'd been putting off, rather), and -- of course -- The Cat.

6. BookChair continues excellent; I have spent a lot of this week curled up on a sofa reading a hardback via the magic of Assistive Technology. (I have a lot of feelings about this ginormous chunky 700-page hardback, but those go in a separate post, I think.)

Hooray!

Searching on BookChair presents some interesting items that I can't even squint to call assistive technology: a beach chair book holder? minimalist furniture that looks quite uncomfortable?

We have several of those, in different sizes, for facilitating knitting while reading!

Very very wonderful!

I share your difficulty managing books, and instead of cluttering your journal I posted about it!

Oh, this sounds lovely <3

Not much of a cook so this'd never occur to me, but YES.
