Jul. 11th, 2019 12:00 pmGood: I HAVE AN IRISH PASSPORT, with no further wrangling about paperwork and evidence and my godmother's work landline!
Bad: it's in my full name, not my use name.
?????: they... misspelled my middle name.
I think this means I get to have the fight with them about leaving out my saint and family names essentially for free, buuuuut I'm going to need to check the paperwork on that.

Date: 2019-07-11 12:54 pm (UTC)Which means everyone WILL insist on calling me by my saint name, which is very tedious.
HOWEVER, the Irish are in principle unwilling to issue a passport in a name that doesn't match the name in any foreign passports. THIS IS RELEVANT BECAUSE the passport they've issued me... doesn't match... the name... in my foreign passport.....
... so I get to write back and say "look, appreciate it massively, but (a) you've typoed my family name and (b) what do I have to do to get you to leave my saint and family names off, I will perfectly happily cancel my UK passport if that's what's required, they just won't let me have only my yard name displayed without renouncing my saint and family &c, which I'm unwilling to do because TRADITION."

Date: 2019-07-11 08:36 pm (UTC)That’s annoying that they messed up and that you have to do more name/people wrangling

Date: 2019-07-11 09:09 pm (UTC)So there is Your Name, which is your wallet name and the thing you get called in church and such, and then there is your yard name, which is what you get called when you're out in the yard working. So it's somewhere, in my understanding, between "usename" and "nickname": the name for everyday, not for births and deaths and marriages.

I still very much subscribe to you.)
