I read Lock In as male-voice the first time round, so when I picked up the audiobook I made sure to get the female-narrator version. It helped a lot in 'hearing' the voice as female when I read, too.
Record of a Spaceborn Few had me crying very early on too. I don't know how she does it, but always, for me.
