Yep, I am increasingly convinced this is "subclinical" hypothyroidism: low serum ferritin and hypothyroidism interact; together with fatigue, changes in bowel habit and weight, elevated blood cholesterol, and being cold and thirsty all the time...
The note that you can get false ferritin readings in the presence of "Chronic infection, inflammation or certain diseases causing tissue and organ damage" is interesting, and likely to complicate things.
Well fuck, that link is just full of stuff it would be great if ANY doctor EVER had thought to tell me. For example, the doctor who just prescribed iron supplements to be taken in the morning, when I take my thyroxine... (lucky for me, I've been taking them in the evening anyway because that works better with executive function).
