(comment I left on the Patreon: 3-2 came across my dash earlier this evening, I have just read EVERYTHING (with laughing-out-loud and misting-up and making-my-partner-read-bits), thank you *so much* for this. -- I am 27, I was in Year 9 when Section 28 was repealed, I was the only out queer in my secondary school of 1000+ students, and I recognise these crushes SO HARD. Thank you so, so much for making this be a thing in the world, and I am really looking forward to reading more. <3)

Date: 2017-09-12 08:14 am (UTC)Like, I'm not quite managing suspension of disbelief about some kid making it to Year 10 in an all-boys' grammar school having never played rugby, but... that is genuinely it? having had a couple of brothers who played rugby on the local youth teams, AHAHAHAHA YES? having done the music-lessons thing ditto? just... haaaaaaaaaa.

Date: 2017-09-12 08:18 am (UTC)As noted above I am having Suspension Of Disbelief issues over a Year 10 pupil in an all-boys' grammar never having played rugby (like I know more about rugby than he does, but on the other hand my mum got Very Into It when my brothers were playing and has taken me to one All Blacks game -- their opener against Argentina at the last world cup -- and liveblogs all their other matches to me, soooooooooo...) but THAT ASIDE I was pretty much just charmed.

Date: 2017-09-12 08:41 pm (UTC)on-page canon has-never-played, doesn't-even-have-the-faintest-idea-how-scoring-works.
like I can forgive it the thing? I genuinely love it to bits in spite of this? but it, er, seems Fairly Likely that the author went to an all-girls' school and doesn't have any brothers? and I did have, as noted, some minor Suspension Of Disbelief issues...

Date: 2017-09-12 09:02 pm (UTC)This sort of stuff's one reason I'm forgiving of yuri mangaka sticking to modernisations of activity stereotypes that may well still be plot-relevant though: some of them have been out of school longer than they were in, and the tropes are still used as shorthand in an awful lot of other (sub)genres with school settings. And hanging out over a cheap meal or coffee-like-substance only changes so much over the years and tbh is more fun to draw than six pages of IM/text conversation!
