Thanks. That's very interesting, and reading some of the responses led me to this post, which argues that many in the rationalist community are getting their economics from This One Dude, and he's misrepresenting "the economic consensus" and "common sense" and so on.
Which if true would explain a lot, although not nearly enough (I recently made the mistake of visiting Slate Star Codex for the first time in a while, and before remembering why I don't do that and noping out, noted with amazement his level of enthusiasm for Elon Musk. I mean.)
