So there's this webcomic about a fictional small-town US college ice hockey team

jedusaur told me about it, of course, and staranise has just started writing fic about it, which in turn means that I've been flailing about headcanon.

Specifically: I am apparently, without having thought about it at all, unshakeably convinced that the PoV character is trans. (I know it is Problematic to have developed this unshakeable headcanon in the context of "he's tiny and gay and a brilliant figure-skater and a brilliant baker and is terrified of being checked" but you know what it's showed up, it's clearly not going away, I legit have significant cognitive dissonance every time fic is all Dude's Cis Tho because, um, what.)

Which, you know, that was very much a thing, and then I was talking to aella_irene about it and she pointed out that Bitty's wallet name is Eric R. Bittle Junior.

... HE CHOSE HIS DAD'S NAME WHEN HE TRANSITIONED.

So yeah then I had a bunch of FEELINGS, so I made staranise have FEELINGS too, and aella_irene's actually fleshed this all out a lot more, but also, TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS RIDICULOUS WEBCOMIC and also HOW GREAT LIS' FIC IS, ALRIGHT.

That headcanon still kills me because Bitty TRIED to do Peewee football, he REALLY TRIED, and his dad was THERE WITH HIM and coached his team even though it was outside his age group, and it was still a massive failure they're both scarred by and Bitty went into figure skating instead.

I think it's canon, right, that his figure skating career ended because they moved towns for his dad's coaching career, so he was too far away to train competitively anymore? I'm still kind of bitter about that for Bitty's sake.

I had not even considered that Bitty was trans, and I'm going to have hold that in my mind a bit.

But I love that comic not only as a queer girl who loves hockey, but also watching the main characters work hard at these non-horrible realizations of masculinity.

That Bitty was a hella forward, cis, gay, and wonderfully femme (20-something Emma would had loved to just sit companionably with him while he baked, studied, or v-bloged) was something I liked too.
