... as distinct from your blue-eyed boys feelings, which is my actual main fandom; by which I mean I am as I have mentioned in a few places getting around to watching the canon that forms the basis for the thing and, well, I'm really sad at the moment, and apparently this means I am watching the first boxset twice (or at least am watching TFA and Avengers twice). ERGO. AVENGERS FEELINGS.

Fury having the moment of "IS THE SUN UP? THEN PUT IT. ON. THE LEFT." He values his boys, he does, but sometimes he is just going to get very very frustrated with them.

Tony eventually hitting the moment of self-awareness on the helicarrier wossname! "... a monument built to the skies with his name o- sonuvvabitch." WELL DONE TONY YOU GOT THERE EVENTUALLY YOU ARE OCCASIONALLY SELF-AWARE.

IN RELATED TONYFEELS NEWS (and I think I need to make it clear that the only reason I am even capable of Tonyfeels is M's fic, okay) -- so he starts out the film being all "wtf why is this dude Phil his first name is actually Agent" and then when he's picking the fight with Loki is all "You pissed off somebody else, too. His name's Phil." And the bullshit about 12%, an argument to be made for 15; and about how come nobody else did the homework; and the egregiously rude "thank fuck someone I don't have to explain myself six ways from Sunday to" with Banner. And the bit where he hacks the fuckin' SHIELD jet over Stuttgart to play a really obnoxious tune and then calls in "Agent Romanoff. You miss me?" YES TONY THANK

Have I mentioned around here recently that one of my childhood crushes was the Hulk? One of my childhood crushes was the Hulk. "I'm always angry" BE STILL MY BEATING HEART.

Oh Fury you are such a fuckup but you... I want to say you love 'em? But you don't, do you, you are just absolutely fucking committed to your job and they're a tool. They're an excellent tool and you'll take care, but. But. Wow.

"Suit up." Just. The entire concept. I have feelings about it. And especially feelings about the bit where Steve looks to Natasha for confirmation that Clint's good to go.

The Hulk doing the thing where you grab something's head and pull it sideways to change its direction (this is legit how you deal with horses, at least some of the time.)

Ugh. Their ridiculous faces. Their going for shawarma. All of M's fic. Yes. Thank you. I am deeply embarrassed at myself for weeping over ridiculous superhero movies (where weeping over M's fic is obvs fine) but. yes. yes good.

I read on Tumblr about how someone thinks that's the most powerful scene in the MCU so far.

[ok, I can legit babble about Avengers and MCU for ages, so I will not be offended if you tell me to stop]

One of the things I love about all the MCU films is how they include ordinary people doing their best (as well as extra-ordinary people doing their best), and how pretty much every film has as an underlying theme "teamwork! isn't it great!" rather than Lonely Heroes In Their Manpain. The old man standing up to Loki is absolutely part of that (as is the police in Manhattan breaking out of their shock to do their jobs, once Steve gives them a nudge, as is Clint and Natasha rescuing people from the bus).

"Suit up" after checking with Natasha, is just so wow. Actually I love that whole suiting-up sequence: Tony fixing his face plate, Natasha pulling on her "widow's bite" gloves, Clint and his bow, Steve and his shield, the three of them doing a Heroic Walk onto the little plane, and (far away) Thor hesitating but picking up his hammer.

I can't remember where Bruce waking up comes into that sequence, but there's a lovely deleted scene where he talks to the old-guy-who-finds-him about whether he needs to go towards or away from trouble. (Always angry; my heart. Hulk is the only one of these lot I knew from childhood.)

I read something just the other day on tumblr about how Stan Lee apparently created Tony Stark as a challenge to himself: someone "the hippies ought to hate, but can't", and really I like him very much, but probably only because of RDJ's acting.

It's definitely the first film where the continuity starts really paying off - so far, it's kept doing so from there.

Um. Sorry about slightly-emotionally-blunted late night comment. But yes, it's a good film that couldn't possibly exist without what's come before. Also, on a lighter note, Cap's order to the Hulk? :p

It's a good film that resulted in me pretty much immediately going and buying the previous films, and falling headlong hard into a fandom.

(and going to my second midnight release-day screening in 13 months, next week)

I have great difficulty caring about movie-Steve even slightly, because to my mind Chris Evans does a bang-up job of capturing the essence of comics-Captain-America and I find that character really dull.

Movie-Tony, on the other hand, I persistently admire the ways in which he continues to be depicted as no less of a jerk for being a hero. And though I have difficulty buying "I'm always angry" from someone as thoroughly calm as Ruffalo's Bruce (and still miss Ed Norton in the role), the geek-flirting between Tony and Bruce is far and away the thing that hits me most emotionally in Avengers.

..."geek flirt" used to mean something subtly different on alt.polyamory, though quite thoroughly slash-compatible :-)
