#25 Something about religious orders
Dec. 27th, 2014 01:36 amIt is pretty much the case that I'm intensely wary of them because they presuppose organised religion which, again, intensely wary. Which is not really a surprise, I think, given my background as a queer ex-Catholic and some of the shit Christian Union members have said to me.
... which is very much in tension with my desire as a Good Catholic Child to give appropriate respect to the holy men and women of my Church; despite the wariness I am prone to finding seeing nuns (and also seeing some orders of monks, particularly Blackfriars; I adored the Cambridge mission for grounds and masses and communities as a small) a comfort (because we share a significant amount of cultural context? because I miss the Church?).
(And that is the other side of the wariness, of course: it's longing coupled with the knowledge that I am unwelcome and I am unwanted, of knowing that there is no way I would not be burned again if I approached.)
