vital functions

Reading. Spoilers: I had not got far enough into I Contain Multitudes to get unstuck. Frustratingly. But I suppose I have been Pretty Preoccupied this week, between one thing and another...

Watching. Morgan Donner on braid crowns.

Playing. Watched A play a little bit of AlgoBot before hitting a long-standing bug (... with displaying any text...) and were not sufficiently Taken by it to bother trying for workarounds, even workarounds as simple as "reboot in another operating system and try again".

Cooking. Sea spicy aubergine! Salt and pepper tofu!

Eating. Lots of really painfully bland food AND THEN THINGS THAT CONTAINED FIBRE AND ALSO FLAVOURS. Delivery on Friday, for two meals, which was a magnificent indulgence. Nuts! Pears with skins on! Frozen raspberries! Kale! Butter beans! Potatoes, also with skins on! Tomatoes! Gosh but I had not at all realised quite how much fibre my various default grazing-foods contain.

Exploring. The lower ground floor of the local hospital. Minorly terrified myself on the way to get vaccinations by taking the short and more direct route between two places, which I have done only very rarely (possibly never by bike?) and was therefore utterly convinced Probably Didn't Exist.

Making & mending. The pen with the temperature-dependent fault, that I'd decided I hadn't broken, had the fault become gradually less temperature-dependent. I wound up taking the back end off and sluicing it through aggressively with water, and now it appears to be behaving again. So I assume there was Some Grot, but tolerances were such that it wasn't a problem until it got Cold, at least for a while...

Growing. Tomatoes! Ripening! An aubergine that might actually make it to edibility! The squash aten't dead yet (and indeed the one in the greenhouse seems to at least be contemplating the merits of producing some flowers). Yes my tomato harvest this year is going to wind up being approximately 5 tomatoes. Yes I'm still pleased I'm getting any at all.

Purple basil at home is going veeeeeery slowly. Probably I should feed it or something.

No evidence of saffron yet, which I am a bit ... about given that I know there's at least one corm in at least one place. We Shall See.
