Jun. 2nd, 2024 10:40 pmReading. FINISHED The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat (Oliver Sacks). Into the charity shop pile it goes. I think I will not read any of his others.
Picked Otherlands (Thomas Halliday) back up. Still finding it quite slow going. Still want (in theory) to finish it before I move on to any of the next things.
Am making a start on catching back up on DW, having got behind at E1 and then Been Avoidant.
Watching. Another episode of Farscape (Thank God It's Friday, Again). Still very dubious.
Listening. Acquired Undefeated (Frank Turner)! Have not listened to it!
Cooking. Aubergine pollichattu (actually out of East rather than the Graun, but the principle holds), with aloo paratha: expect I will happily make this again if we wind up drowning in aubergines but I think I am not inclined to go out of my way for it. Used onions not shallots; used coconut powder not coconut cream; used tinned tomato not fresh. Definitely better on the second day; unwrapping Pakidge was fun.
Eating. ASPARAGUS. Freezer pastel de nata. And I somehow achieved Perfect Amaretti??? so clearly I should be making those more often. (Munching my way steadily through this batch; once I've got through the egg white backlog in the freezer I can maybe make more ice cream...)
Creating. Does "curating washi tape collections on Etsy" count? Because while this hyperfixation finally seems to be letting up (touch wood) I have now got blue (geometric) patterns and forbidden foil...
(And have twigged that the blue geometric etc is in part because My First Bullet Journal was a Moleskine with a blue-and-white herringbone fabric cover, and also I had a Moment about sashiko last year. So it is nice to know where that's coming from!)
And I did a tiny bit of pen-and-ink sketching. I have discovered that I have absolutely no idea how to make leaves look even vaguely 3D in this medium, and may or may not experiment further (possibly even by looking up tutorials...)
Growing. Persimmon bimbles along happily. All of the baby plants (and some of the overwintered peppers) moved to the allotment by car today, courtesy of A.
I have been making some good progress on Dealing With the Very Enthusiastic Grass (and even some progress on bindweed), between both ewt and A providing Prompting And Support to actually get to the plot.
Observing. WATERFOWL. SO MANY. SOME OF THEM ORBS. Alas when we went on a stupid little walk last night the coot did not obligingly stand up so A has not seen the More Eggs, but. Maybe at some point this week? Hopefully? And we can then have another go at detecting the bat, too.
