unexpected delights

Firstly: the bees that have built themselves tunnels in the not-quite-yet-sandstone-nor-either-dunes by the beach. I have never before observed this phenomenon! But there are bees! Crawling in and out of their wee holes in variously (im)patient queues! hairyears has IDed them as ivy mining bees.

Secondly: I think I saw a clouded yellow butterfly on the way back. Certainly it was extremely bright yellow, and a butterfly, and those are one of the options meeting that description around here.
