[embodiment] amusement
Aug. 26th, 2023 11:46 pmI have spent some of the last few days poking around the internet, mostly wikipedia, and eventually worked out that the thing that hurts in my foot is the "medial calcaneal tuberosity". This is good and useful information, in that it strongly suggests the problem is A Plantar Fasciitis Flare-Up, which I'd not have worked out without the anatomical terminology because it is not the set of sensation I have previously associated with plantar fasciitis!
The part that is amusing to me is that NHS advice is all "wear shoes with cushioned heels and good arch support" and "use insoles or heel pads in your shoes" and "try not to walk barefoot on hard surfaces" and only very grudgingly concedes that it is possible that plantar fasciitis might, under some circumstances, be evidence of an overuse injury!
... I am very sure that the thing that set this off was in fact "going for a walk wearing shoes with my NHS-approved orthotics" as opposed to any of the other shoes I normally use (hiking boots with no insoles, Manitobah Tamarack designed to mimic being barefoot as much as possible, ...) and am absolutely fine with. So "rest and wearing the shoes I'm advised against" it is, then.
