vital functions

Celebrating. My mother's birthday (observed)!

Reading. The Harbors of the Sun, Martha Wells. I have niggles (and definitely some continuity questions) but I did also Leak Emotions Unexpectedly From My Eyes! So. Finished inhaling that series.

The Hands of the Emperor, Victoria Goddard, as discussed. I am having a whole entire Moment about the ways the text does and does not use italics for emphasis, in ways that result in what looks an awful lot like deliberate and carefully-phrased ambiguity. I am enjoying myself a lot.

Cooking. Cakes! One a sibling could eat and one my mother could eat. Apparently using the cardboard sleeve to hold on to the chocolate while grating it makes things a bit less miserable.

Eating. FIGS (courtesy of my mother). BIRTHDAY CAKE. Raspberries and blackberries. Lots of fancy carrots.

Exploring. A couple of Little Free Libraries, in more detail than I've previously managed!

Growing. SO MANY squash. SO many. I need to be a responsible adult and start pinching them out (... and also ideally making sure I get useful seeds out of one of them...) but I am so enjoying watching them go on a rampage.

Observing. Tadpoles!!! In the shit-little-legs-and-still-mostly-tail froglet stage of being!!! Extremely pleased.
