[food] multi-purpose gadgets
Jan. 5th, 2023 10:43 pmTwo things that happened when we visited my parents over the holidays: the first was that I resentfully envied my mother her airing cupboards, because her sourdough starter (a clone of mine, at least to begin with!) is much happier being given rising time in same; and my brother jeered at me affectionately for having Too Many Single Use Kitchen Gadgets (specifically in reference to the rice cooker, wHICH IS GREAT, THANKS).
In a conversation a few days later, I mentioned this Envy to my mother. She said "hmm, what about the dehydrator?" (which she got me as a present in exchange for being kept in as much dried apple as she can eat), to which I replied that when I've got it in the house anyway I have used it for that and it works really well, but when I'm not using it fairly actively it goes out to live in the garage.
But what this did achieve was making me go "... wait. have I not heard? about people using? Instant Pots for this?" Because an Instant Pot I do have, and it does live permanently in the kitchen!
... and giving the starter and then the bread itself half an hour on Yoghurt Mode seems to cheer it up immensely (compared to the ambient temperature in the flat, which tends to be about 18°C).
SO THERE I am VERY HAPPY with my single-use gadgets THANKS. :-p
