Dec. 31st, 2022 11:58 pm... running early, because this week's usual slot -- tomorrow -- I am ambitiously intending to fill with thoughts on the year just gone and that to come.
Celebrating. I am sat on my sofa, next to my Adam, with mulled apple juice and fancy chocolate and fireworks going off down the hill, and I have this evening made my way through replying to a backlog of social e-mail that got caught between the migraine and the executive dysfunction and the shame, using the new Gregorian year as impetus to take these steps. It is quiet (give or take the fireworks down the hill) and it is peaceful and I am feeling slightly pressed for time but I am also, fundamentally, feeling good.
Reading. No books, this week; I've been trying to catch up on Dreamwidth (again), starting from mid-August and the beginning of December in two separate tabs, and attempting to manage at least one day per day -- and consequently I have not managed much reading of books, but I have (thanks to you, various and sundry) borrowed Spirals in Time (helen Scales) from the library as an ebook, and placed a hold on Travis Alabanza's None of the Above.
Playing. Pokémon Go continues; Scrabble, with my mother and Adam; most other games have been in abeyance.
Eating. Of particular note: a Christmas pudding made... two years ago, now? that's been sat on top of the dresser marinating for the duration; Christmas cake courtesy of my mother.
Exploring. On Monday I went for a walk, with my mother and A, out to Girton and back again; on Tuesday we visited Anglesey Abbey, and the rain considerately held off for the majority of the duration. This time around I particularly enjoyed a feature of the winter garden I'd either not previously quite noticed, or simply had not remembered: the way that there is only ever one drift of dogwood visible from any particular point, and the rhythm this imparts; and, to my quiet delight, the birch grove has been expanded, with what I am fairly sure is saffron under the new saplings.
Making & mending. I sorted out a bottle cage on my bike! And might yet, before the week is out, replace the inner on the back wheel, and thereby have a working velocipede once more...
Observing. Excellent sunsets; the birds on my mother's feeders; and, as ever, the snails.
Happy new Gregorian year. <3
