Jan. 30th, 2022 11:22 pmReading. Piranesi, Susanna Clarke. Reread complete, along with Lots Of Geographical Notes. I have decided that it is in fact Rather Good.
White Fragility, Robin DiAngelo. Just getting started on this.
Writing. A pile of migraine documentation, thereby thoroughly upsetting myself.
Watching. BBC Life: Mammals, as a Treet for decompressing post-migraine-paperwork-wrangle. Fave: PILE OF FRUITBATS.
( liveblog! )
Playing. Wordle, and I'm up to #52 of ReWordle (implemented by a friend).
Adam & I have also started playing Creaks, a relatively recent game by Amanita Design (Machinarium, Botanicula) that I'd totally missed being released until Simon mentioned that it contained a goat. We have not yet met said beasts, but I am greatly enjoying bullying jellyfish in a planetarium. (This + hot chocolate was my wind-down this evening from more neurology appt prep, and very well it worked too.)
Eating. I had been intending to also cook the broad bean kuku from Ottolenghi & Tamimi's Jerusalem, but then I had my third migraine this month! Adam very bravely cooked it instead, and lo, It Was Good. I mean, I think we are now v convinced that he is Wrong about how long kuku should ideally be cooked for, at least for our tastes, but this can definitely happen again (and went very well with rice w/ fried onions & cloves & star anise).
We also consumed a tub of Mystery Sauce from the freezer, on Monday, that turned out to be lentil-based bolognaise! So I think we are now down to one (1) container of Mystery Sauce in the freezer, which is exciting.
Making & mending. Had a bit of a go at one of the Kenwood Chefs, and then got Adam to help me with more sheer brute force than I could bring to bear on the problem. For my next trick I need to reconstruct it...
Growing. A Passiflora edulis hatched, as I think I mentioned, and is now unfurling its first true leaf! I am cossetting it rather -- hopefully this year I will manage to get it past "two true leaves", being my previous high point...
Garlic continue to come up at the plot, and also thanks to A's heroic efforts we think we have now got up All The Significant Carpet (!). Photos of the much-improved plot were sent off to the council earlier this evening along with a "pls tell me what else you need me to do by the reinspection date of Feb 5th", but basically it's looking much more like it's actually under cultivation and I am feeling much more as though I am approximately to grips with it, which: hurrah.
