Reading. ... mostly I have been in lab and too tired to brain additional input BUT I have now begun Brené Brown's Rising Strong, which I will probably also end up taking copious notes on. (I've got half a page or so of arguing with the introduction, which is certainly something.)

Watching. The Blue Planet: The Abyss. AMINALS. This is another extra; I think we're strictly less into the directorial decisions on this disc of extras than the others, but the scientists (or just journalists? unclear) being incredibly excited about animals were kind of adorbz.

Animals I wrote down as being particularly entertaining: Chiroteuthis juveniles, with a LONG POINTY RIGID TAIL; Vampyroteuthis because what the genuine fuck; I still think Grenadier fish are lovely; siphonophores are fascinating little colonial beasties thAT AREN'T AS LITTLE AS ALL THAT, IT TURNS OUT; and the weird featherfoot thing I totally failed to write down the proper name of.

Cooking. More plum cobbler, via the magic of Other People's Plum Trees, this time with hazelnut in the cobble, which I think I am very pro. I continue to experiment with increasing the proportion of brown or wholemeal flour in the sourdough and I think so far we're Officially Fans.

Got another batch of vanilla ice cream going, and actually used up some of the egg whites to make wafers. Half the wafer mix has been used up; the other half is in a bucket in the fridge for me to Have Another Go At Shortly.

(Also: big batch of leek & potato soup, because I had been having a craving. Also: batch of lentil bolognaise. Also: there's some yoghurt going.)

Creating. Making & mending: all the bits I'd ordered for NEW SHOELACES finally showed up, so I spent some of Friday evening with a soldering iron and some rainbow paracord and some aglets, and now I have replacement laces for my DMs (because the Stonewall rainbow laces were fraying spectacularly). They're not in situ yet, because I want to get my act together to actually give the poor boots a bit of TLC, but I am Pleased.

Also featured: applied the soldering iron (it's the gas-powered one we use minus a tip for creme brûlée; similar principle here) to a fraying bit of lap-bag, having chopped the end off, so that too has gone melty and tidy instead of Endless Fraying.

Observing. The visit cat came in and looked for me; we are of the growing suspicion that it thinks, specifically, me on the sofa is a friend, and Anything Else is Not. Having said which I have also discovered that apparently fennel seed heads left to dry are THE BEST cat toy, at least if you are This Specific Cat. (Yes, it's okay, I spotted what it was doing and 1. removed all the ones I cared about and 2. checked toxicity.)

On my wander through town: lots of teenage swans and also a teenage coot; adult coot having a VERY THOROUGH PREEN.

Poking. 100% Lotad, wild-caught!
