Small work delights
Nov. 15th, 2013 08:59 pmYesterday my research group went to the pub, whereupon my supervisor bought me a drink and the lovely no-nonsense second-most-senior-PI (we have four, or possibly five) very firmly told me to shut up and stop worrying because I am doing fine.
Today the head-of-group offered me a co-authorship on a paper containing results that won a rather expensive legal case, if I'll chuck a couple of his samples in with my next batch - they want analysing for the thing I'll be working on; he'd normally give them to the lab manager to do, but I get them instead so she doesn't end up running a set of 2 instead of 12 (standard set size) and as practice and also for the publication record, subject to my reading the draft paper so far and deciding whether I want anything to do with it. My group.
And then I had an uninspiring afternoon teaching (mostly the lecturer talked them through every step of the practical and demonstrators were superfluous), but in the process I snagged a lecturer who's involved with but not teaching the course and got her to suggest a thing for me to try for the paper I'm trying to get done for By The End Of Next Week Ahahahaha, and got back from my three hours of that to find a large cardboard box on my desk, on which was a post-it that read "Rock Present! [supervisor]".
Box of rocks. :D
