Reading. Tiiiny bit more of I Contain Multitudes.

Wonderland Is a Parking Lot in Revere, John Chu. As is usually the case I think I probably missed a lot of what he was Getting At, but also as usual I enjoyed myself a lot.

Cooking. Kadhai paneer curry, which A was definitely keen on and I was only mildly suspicious of.

Eating. POST-HOSPITAL OTTOLENGHI. V good yes thank. Wound up sharing shakshuka and buttermilk pancakes, because neither of us was sure who'd won. Did not get more of the lemon and bay cake on the basis that I Have The Ingredients For That At Home Now, but did fall rapturously in love with the hazelnut & ricotta cake that turns out to have its recipe in Sweet.

Growing. First frost; outside squash unshockingly decidedly unhappy about it. Greenhouse squash still doing okay. SIX CLUMPS OF SAFFRON (last I checked, on Friday) COMING UP AT THE PLOT. There's a chance I've missed them flowering what with not having been since Friday, but... fingers crossed (and I also need to check the various patio containers again, whoops, though there was nothing doing in them on Saturday, at least).

I just read that story too! As it happens, Wonderland is a Blue Line MBTA stop in Revere MA, presumably with a parking lot. I was surprised that the title wasn't referenced in the story at all, but perhaps I need to look again.

And Chu lives in Arlington MA (a few miles from Revere) and works for AMD (I used to work in the same group as he presumably still does). I've been to the conference he uses as the opening setting, and the fundraiser karaoke is 100% real and just as cringe as it sounds 😆

Though presumably the karaoke doesn't have terrifyingly difficult opera on offer. (Edit: I tracked down and listened to the referenced arias, the first one mentioned is instantly recognizable, the ones actually sung are not.)
