Celebrating. Solstice! The turning of the year; the lengthening of the days.

Reading. A bit more of Migraine, but really not very much; I think probably it is time for me to sigh deeply and take a break from it until I've handled the next round of Paperwork. (There is, as ever, more Paperwork.)

Watching. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022)! We did not manage to watch it on Friday because (surprise!) migraine, but I did borrow a Significant Amount Of Energy from my future self to watch it yesterday AND IT IS GREAT AND WE LOVED IT and we keep going AND ANOTHER THING-- at each other about it. If you want to shriek about it with me please feel encouraged so to do.

And then tonight we accidentally rewatched a rather larger quantity of Knives Out (2019) than expected in order to remind ourselves of exactly what [spoilers spoilers spoilers].

Playing. I know I mentioned that I had picked up Pokémon Go again for the nibling? This Continues.

I have also had an Extremely Satisfactory Week in terms of Flight Rising (I collected several more familiars that have been Eluding Me, notably including the sodding Poltergeist Pile, which I singularly failed to find in either of my previous two Night of the Nocturnes), and we solved Chroma 2.06 and are Making Progress on 2.07...

... and I got today's Redactle (two-word title) in two, so I'm smug about that, too, even though it is apparently much less challenging than the only other one I've solved in the minimum number of moves, at least judging by what the median and average number of guesses are currently.

Cooking. I finally got together sufficient tuits to make the Ottolenghi "rum butter glazed gingerbread tiles" (look at them!!!) that sent me down the Nordic Ware rabbit hole lo these many moons ago (I typed this sentence before actually searching my journal and thereby establishing that this is the exact phrasing I used then, heh) , meaning I have now actually made inaugural use of (most of) the cookie stamps [personal profile] sciatrix gallantly procured for me and then sent over. And then I also used them to make rather untraditional (i.e. not shaped like dinosaurs) Teebäckerei! I have learned Several Things via this process and have fingers crossed that my next batch(es) will be more photogenic, but gosh these are a fun total frivolity and I am Very Happy.

What else what else. A small batch of cheese straws, with the bit-over-half-a-block of butter left over after the Teebäckerei, with the same amount of pastry again in the fridge to do Something with (more cheese straws? maybe some mince pies, given the amount of mincemeat [UK] in the pantry that needs using? a tiny lemon meringue tart for A?). And! Red cabbage, with Apfelmus from 2021, that's been lurking in the pantry; oca from the allotment (I have harvested half a kilo so far, and there is lots more to come), roasted, along with potatoes and one (1) parsnip and four tiny onions; and I was Very Pleased with the stuffing I semi made up, with an onion and a leek and a little bit of garlic, and sage and thyme from the plants variously on the patio and the windowsill, and the cooking water for the potatoes and parsnips and carrots, and dried apricot and pecans, and the end of a loaf of sourdough. Sufficiently pleased with that that I firmly intend to do it again.

AND we made veg stir-fry with some of the yacón! I need to sort out the growing tips for next year (they are currently in a tub on the patio) but at this point that's probably a job for Wednesday. A is in favour; I'm very pleased given how little attention it got this year, and that I didn't actually dig it up until after the ground had thawed again post-snow. I only got 600g of Eating Tuber but, again, pretty pleased with that.

Eating. Periodically we get sent a box of Booja Booja truffles, usually via Abel & Cole, and I am once again mildly grumpy about how tasty I think they are.

Exploring. This week has been much less adventurous than last week! There were no ditches at all!

Making & mending. I have been busily setting up my notebook for 2023, and am mildly horrified by the extent to which I am now, apparently, a person who knows Exactly what they want and is cross that their individual persnickety preferences re same have unaccountably not been catered to by The Market. (Fountain pen-friendly paper, and specifically FP-friendly paper that will cope with both the utterly ridiculous Platinum UEF nib and my 1.1mm stub gracefully, and that is white or very close to it; A5, with 39 dots/38 rows to the portrait vertical, Leuchtturm; numbered pages, ideally at the midpoint of pages but corner is acceptable, though if in the corner then for preference there would be some other kind of subtle marking indicating the middle of the page; two bookmarks; lay-flat hardcover that is not made of plastic good grief; ~250 pages.)

Growing. Oca! Yacón! Sage! Thyme! Things are mostly asleep for the winter at this point, but the volunteer soup peas came through the cold snap Just Fine and the artichokes also seem to have survived it. Hurrah for Eating Things We Grew. :)

Glass Onion is the best.

We watched it last night, and are watching Knives Out again now.

Glass Onion is lots of fun, yeah.

If you have a Known Good plain paper for those things, I could possibly be persuaded to do a trade of some sort (as I have the rest of the bookbinding and design skills, lol)

Well, at least you know what you want in a notebook! Alas about The Market.
