On the downside: I spent something like 8 hours today at A&E following checking in with 111 this morning!

On the upside: A came with me; there was actual effective treatment (I think, though let's see how I feel when I wake up in the morning), and we got takeaway pizza on the way home.

Macabre humour: I decided, over the course of our afternoon in the waiting room, that "Domestic to resus[citation]" is equivalent to "broken bottle in aisle 18", or, put another way, "... we spilled a patient :("

Further comment [cn someone having a Very Bad Day, no details]: I was very impressed with the very calm very brisk slightly singsong tone employed, over the tannoy, for "Staff announcement. A&E doctor to resus. A&E doctor to resus, please. Patient arrived." For the most part, announcements requesting the presence of a doctor specified a doctor by name, so... yeah.

When I spent a couple days in hospital in 2019, we would occasionally hear that there was an ambulance expected in X minutes, and a vague concept of which staff should be sprinting there. It was always very calm.

We also got a verse of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star every now and then, and I asked about it. It turns out that means there's a new baby arrived.

I'm glad there was actual effective treatment, and I hope you feel much better after you wake up in the morning.

Oof! Hope the treatment continues to be effective.

Re:Macabre Humour I think some patients are self-spilling!
One of the times I was in resus (before my heart got fixed) I overheard a staff member telling relatives in the next cubicle that "The Bereavement Team" would be in touch with them. I am simultaneously glad that they provide that kind of aftercare and boggling that they haven't found a name that doesn't sound like a gang of assassins...

Yay for effective treatment, though eight hours in A&E is usually enough to give anyone a headache, even if they didn't start with one (or worse, a migraine).

Yay for hopefully actually effective treatment plans! (And I hope most of that 8 hours was spent getting help and not mostly in the waiting room)

If you can hear any sort of sound like hollow laughter, it's probably my sister in the ambulance queue outside RCH Treliske. Admittedly I have no idea what Kab's experience in London was like, but once upon a time it was newsworthy whenever ambulances were unable to immediately discharge their patients into A&E. Now, in some places at least, it's becoming Just The Way Things Are.
