Watching. Atomic Blonde (2017). Mostly I could not get over Charlize Theron's MI6 handler being Arnim Zola (whose actor has a sufficiently distinctive forehead that I do recognise him).

Cooking. Another round of the Ottolenghi barley risotto with marinated feta, only this time we were out of barley but did have a bag of spelt we'd been given, which wasn't sufficiently cooked the first night but was much improved by the second, if still on the chewy side.

And then, tonight, a batch of enchilada, for which A grated too much cheese, as a result of which I remembered we had some tortilla chips and therefore stuck them in the otherwise-warm oven with said end of cheese on top. (Enchilada were largely an attempt to use up Profusion Organic Pea & Fava Protein Chunks, also a gift. They were... entirely adequate, but we are unlikely to get them again; on the other hand, A reckons he probably prefers their mince, ditto, to Quorn, so given that it doesn't require freezing...)

And also one batch of brownie batter, baked both with and without nuts, for a Flesh Social with cousins.

Eating. In addition to the above, various: an... underdeveloped cob of sweetcorn from the allotment. More compellingly, MORE RUBY VIOLET -- A's employer gave him a bunch of money that he needed to spend on Treats, and he ended up going [shrug] and putting it all into a Ruby Violet gift card, which means that when in turn we ran out of CO2 for the Sodastream he decided to order another box of ice cream so he could transfer the dry ice it came packed with to one of the empty cylinders... which means that I have had some actual scoops of Malted Milk ice cream (one with brownie!), and also of the Raspberry Ripple -- which is not a flavour I usually like, as under almost all other circumstances I find it too sweet, but apparently when it's Ruby Violet I like it.

Making & mending. A bought me a pair of Fiskars shears off eBay -- I was looking stuff up because he had a B&Q voucher he wanted to spend an additional £3.69 on, where unfortunately the garden scissors I actually wanted from them worked out at around £3.82, but obviously I promptly fell down a rabbit hole and... at the point at which there's a pair of Fiskars shears going for £4.50 plus £4.70 postage, yes I will, thank you kindly! ... but A had not quite appreciated the scale of the things, and was... somewhat startled. Anyway, the reason for the price is in part that the blades are somewhat rusty and need some TLC; I had a quick go with the wire wool this afternoon but I think I actually need to get the rotary tool out, so there's a job for this week coming...

Growing. Beans! Sweetcorn! One (1) aubergine!

Something has, infuriatingly, eaten the tiny lemon leaves, so... now I get to try to work out how to best keep it alive again! For starters, I probably need to relocate all of the strawberry runners, sigh, so that's also a job for this week.

Observing. The parakeets showed up over our garden the other evening, which was an interesting novelty! I'm used to seeing them in the park and at the allotments, but not up here at the top of the hill.

And the bats have not yet gone to sleep, which is very welcome. :)

If I ever end up actually watching Atomic Blonde, I’m totally keeping an eye out for Arnim Zola😄

The lemon cannot catch a break. Should you ever feel the urge to write a children's book about perseverance, I think you have your protagonist.

The malted milk flavour from Ruby Violet is so good! So good that although we have stopped our subscription now it is not summer, we went on the site to order a set of five tubs and cleaned out their stock of malted milk ice cream. Oops?

Ohhh that tiny lemon. Sigh.

Well, we actually bought up what we were told was the last two at the time (last week), so if there were any to be had... that's our bad for leaving any behind. :p

If it was the raspberry ripple I had one of the times I was at Ruby Violet with you - definitely raspberry something - it was incredible. I was still tasting it when I got to Darlington 3+ hours later.

ZOMG Toby Jones is so great. As distinctive as he looks, he's played an amaaaaaaaaaazing variety of roles.

My beloved [personal profile] ewt's decision to get a Ruby Violet subscription order over the whole if the summer is The Best Thing Evah.

I enjoyed the malted milk: I hadn't expected to, but the very best gelatiers and chefs can make a dish that surprises and delights me in taking a great deal of pleasure in something that I don't actually like.
