Reading. The Silmarillion, J. R. R. Tolkien, you know the drill.
The Vela, misc, slowly and with some irritation.
The Ladies of Grace Adieu, Susannah Clarke: partial reread.
Writing. A poem fragment came to me all of a sudden the other night! Which I was very excited about! I need to do some maths and I need to think also about whether I want to leave it as it is or expand it, but I wrote a poem.
Watching. Leverage: Redemption, S01E03. I have A Bunch Of Thoughts and a post partly written about them, and will try to get that up this week (and before the next episode we consume).
Cooking. The Family Birthday Cake, for my mother, which would have been (even) better had I held my nerve and left it in the oven longer, but even so was pretty good once inverted. (This is the cake where every time I eat it I wonder why I don't make it more often, and every time I make it I remember that the answer is because it involves finely grating two hundred grams of chocolate...)
Some proof-of-concept ramen.
Eating. I have been particularly enjoying eating amaretti with raspberries and marscapone, this week, but today I have also been fed (by other people) vegan sushi, Greek salad, baba ganoush, courgette fritters, stuffed mushrooms, bread various, and my mother's tomatoes and basil -- all of which were lovely.
Making & mending. I spent some time sharpening my mother's kitchen knives for her this afternoon, and I jury-rigged some supports for the fig tree (which was trying to fan-train itself rather more enthusiastically than I actually considered appropriate or desirable). I have also been minimally involved with A's project of cleaning & treting the decking (postural hypotension issues exacerbated by heat & meds increase limited my involvement.)
Growing. This week I have been annoyed and upset that the jostaberries and gooseberries both got on spectacularly badly with the hot weather followed by torrential rain, so the final harvest was much less than I'd been hoping for and indeed expecting based on, y'know, the amount of fruit visibly on the bushes.
More cheerfully: the corn is growing very rapidly now, and the beans are scrambling up them enthusiastically. The one germinated squash has been potted up. The raspberries are now starting to produce a reasonable harvest, and I've weeded almost all of them pretty thoroughly, thereby almost filling a 25kg flour sack -- which turn out to be the solution to my trug problem, in that we get two of them every six months, they're simultaneously sturdy and disposable, and they're easy to haul around.
Observing. A giant frog, which A called me out to look at while he was wrangling the decking (it was large enough and bumpy enough I thought it was maybe even a toad, but it was definitely hopping); the snails.
