I have had to back off from cycling -- every day is definitely too much, once a week is definitely fine (subject to cardiovascular system), and now I get to slowly build up again. ("Definitely too much": I stop being able to successfully imitate a flamingo on my right leg because my knee is too !!!, and wind up only just able to shift my weight mostly onto my right leg with my left foot still in contact with the ground.)
I have been doing Pilates at home once a week for... actually bang on six months, now. (I started in mid-December, at the point at which I started bullet journalling and began doing a lot more physio in general -- making myself a sticker chart really works for me.)
I have gone from "absolute minimum number of reps, not making it all the way through the programme in either of my charity-shop books" to "max recommended number of reps, whole programme". I have gone from "not sure I'm doing this right" to "ah, yes, there's that muscle, this is what this exercise is targeting" for all of them.
I am absolutely fascinated to notice myself actively engaging my core muscles automatically when I e.g. lean over to reach for the water jug. My sense of how to use them during horn practice and while doing other exercise is also improving.
I am noticeably stronger and I'm really enjoying it.

Date: 2021-06-20 11:27 am (UTC)I have been doing more movement and strength work recently, and the other day I noticed it helping me (as I was carrying a folding bike while transferring between subway lines). It's so great to develop and use capability!
Who only by balancing fall over
Date: 2021-06-21 04:07 pm (UTC)The novel sense of *noticing* your balance and movement is something I remember from my second year of training in Aikido.
Being able to use that effectively came a while later.
