some good things make a post
Mar. 16th, 2021 11:56 pm1. straciatella ice cream (Ruby Violet, delivered) + frozen raspberries (the allotment, last summer)
2. cooking with A: another round of black pepper tofu yesterday, our default tofu thing today, and finishing boiling up the puddings
3. rereading Max Gladstone's Craft Sequence in series-internal chronological order, which is a thing I have not as far as I can recall done before, and which I am enjoying a very great deal in terms of seeing how they all fit together from this angle
4. horn practice: I have been managing a bit more by way of sustained technical exercise over the past few weeks (not much, but more), and it has been a surprise and a pleasure how quickly the top of my range and my accuracy are recovering
5. I am very much appreciating having been informed that there's not only nomenclature but, like, an entire field of study around the Tetris effect.

Date: 2021-03-17 04:05 pm (UTC)... no that is PERFECTLY FINE. The way they got published is FUCKING WEIRD.
(herewith Advice Alex; ignore at will)
But. Okay. So. The trick (which it is entirely possible you have heard before) is, the number in the title! is the tell for the series-internal ordering (up to Ruin of Angels, which is #6 and following which they're apparently going to be published in chronological order (but #7 isn't going to be out til 2022).
So:
Last First Snow Two Serpents Rise Three Parts Dead Four Roads Cross Full Fathom Five
Honestly the only two it is Really Actually Useful to read in internal chronological order are, I Think, 3PD and 4RC -- the others all contain varying extents of overlapping characters, and I'm definitely enjoying this read-through in chronological rather than publication order, but 3PD and 4RC were the right way round in publication order, too, so it's slightly hard to tell.
L1S is set ~20 years before 2SR/3PD/4RC/FF5, and like The Magician's Nephew can perfectly well be read last (or at least second).
... is there more babble that might help? I am very very willing to babble about this series ad more-or-less infinitum.
