STILL NOT DONE SCREAMING ABOUT HOW JON IS A SUFFERER IN MARTIN'S DOMAIN!!!!
bwim, Martin's domain is described by Jon thus:
It’s a small domain. A swirling mix of The Eye and The Lonely. Inhabited by a few lost souls whose fear is not of their isolation or their agonies, but that no-one will ever know of them. That they shall suffer in silence, and be mourned by nobody. That’s why you can’t really see it. It’s why even if we do travel through it, you won’t be able to see any of the people trapped there.
aDN THEN:
I did try, right at the start, but you didn’t seem to want to talk about it, so I didn’t push it. It’s hard, I have so much knowledge but… how do I decide what people want me to share, and what they never want to know?
Jon. Is at the intersection. of The Eye and The Lonely, of wanting to be seen and never managing it and deliberately hiding himself so people won't leave him, of suffering in silence, of watcher but never watched, of Better Off Dead And Forgotten and also, desperately, wanting to be wanted.
We already had the Daisy-Basira parallels with "She’s too… too deep. I can’t do anything, not without killing her." We already know that Jon can't disentangle himself from the Eye. I think we're getting them here, too, with the people who can carve through others' domains in safety ("Daisy carved through the domains of others. Basira, well… in a very real way, she was a sufferer in Daisy’s domain.").
(And then of course there's Helen still desperate for people to validate her choices.)
