Slow worms are lizards that Forgot how to Leg. I am super fond of them; there are a bunch of them at the allotment, but I've consistently utterly failed to get half-decent photos, hence swooping (cruelly) on this opportunity. I put it back down within fifteen seconds of picking it up; it wiggled affrontedly off.

it did some initial half-hearted wriggling, decided I'd gripped it (not hard! I have some amount of experience handling wee corn snakes) such that dropping its tail wasn't going to help, and settled with disgruntlement into Feigning Death, thus allowing a pretty decent picture for the time constraints I Feel.

naturally every time I actually invite people to the allotment to see the fake snakes they're nowhere to be found, but I have genuinely seen piles of up to four or so at once. it's BRILLIANT.

(I think I'd previously seen one (1) once (1ce), in Slovenia.)
