Reading. The Will to Change (2004), bell hooks. Well, ouch: this clearly & kindly & unflinchingly describes... a lot... of the difficulties in my relationships with men various, and indeed their own difficulties. I am not managing to connect, however, with her definitions of a feminist masculinity (contrasted with patriarchal masculinity, which I think is now popularly called toxic masculinity): as far as I can tell, what she's describing here is fundamentally psychologically healthy adulthood, and I don't see that there's anything inherently or specifically masculine about it. (It is, of course, possible that I'm Just Too Trans For This.)

I'm also particularly appreciating the emphasis on the importance of feminists talking about How The Patriarchy Hurts Men Too in accessible ways that enter the popular imagination.

This came due at the library (with someone else having placed a hold) before I quite managed to finish it, so once they're done with it I have another two-or-so chapters to read.

Hexarchate Stories, Yoon Ha Lee. I! loved this! I particularly adored the way the final novella made the entire rest of the collection click into focus as memories. And, of course, I desperately want to know What Happens Next, and to have people's motivations spelled out more, and aaaaaaaaaaah.

The Book of Dust: The Secret Commonwealth. I picked this up in early January; I've been tidying gently over the course of a (very rainy) weekend, and reading this now counts as Tidying because it was In A Pile On The Sofa and needs Finishing so it can get Put Away. Here is where I nod solemnly.

Watching. We showed [personal profile] alexwlchan the first episode of She-Ra. I think we have a convert.

Listening. Welp we're now an eighth of the way through the second season of TMA. There is plot! I'm enjoying the plot! I cackled a lot at the S1 Q&A.

I think we've now met two of the Michaels? Two of the Michaels.

Cooking. A variant on sad Alex rice, involving lots of sesame oil and some sesame seeds and Cut Price Broccoli Yes Please And Thank You.

Some fig and hazelnut sourdough, because I had a craving, in addition to the Ordinary Bread.

Growing. I partially crushed the stem of the bravest of the passionfruit through clumsiness with the hat for the warm plant box. :( It hasn't died yet, though, so -- fingers crossed. Fingers crossed.

The lemon is down to about three leaves, sigh. I'm hoping it holds on 'til it warms up enough I can sit it outside, because maybe more direct sunlight will help it feel better. We do what we can.

The nightshades, however, are putting out Proper Leaves; the broad beans weren't entirely dead yet when last I checked. It is time to get tomatoes started, but I'm dithering over whether to try for that in the Warm Plant Box (potentially requiring turfing some things out, which I don't think they're ready to manage just yet) or to push on ahead in the bathroom. Decisions decisions.

Observing. Snowdrops! Daffodils! Crocuses beginning to produce flowers!

Playing. I am up to the triangles in I ♥ Hue. They are... Extremely Triangles. I am not sure how I feel about this.

What else? Another Portal achievement, and progress towards a Portal 2 achievement, both slightly stymied by having made the error of updating the desktop and therefore trashing the graphics drivers again, but that isn't necessarily all bad.

Pokémon Go: SHINY MAKUHITA.

I've never read bell hooks. I should do that at some point.

Yay plot! The plot has broken the surface!

I cackled a lot at the S1 Q&A.

DELICIOUS, SCREAMING PASTA.

And the first mention of Jonny's "Ironized Yeast" fixation ...

The Q&As are very good value; generally hilarious, often very thoughtful about their dramatic choices.

I think we've now met two of the Michaels? Two of the Michaels.

Yeah, you've met the two major Michaels, Michael Crew (with the lightning scar) and Michael "tall, blond and monster". Not to mention Mikaele, of course. The rest of the Michaels are merely supporting or decoy Michaels.

The Q&As are SO VERY MUCH like Having A Chat With Jonny Down The Pub and I am charmed by how Jonny he is. Like. This is just What He's Like.

I am delighted to know this! I mean, it seemed unlikely that it was all an elaborate facade, but obviously people tend to edit/put forwards a particular version of themselves when it's for public consumption, so I am happy to know it's approximately authentic.

I HAD NOT QUITE MANAGED TO DIFFERENTIATE THE TWO ENGLISH-MICHAELS, HURRAH

You are not alone in this. And this is why we get to mock Jonny about his Michael Problem.
