[politics] Alright, let's do this.

Here's a thing I'm finding helpful: yes, the Tories won a horrendous parliamentary majority, but in terms of vote share they lost out, nationally, to centre/left parties. Here's another thing I'm finding helpful: my new MP is a Kurdish woman, replacing a Change UK MP whose politics made me, in several respects, deeply uncomfortable; and in Enfield Southgate Bambos Charalambous kept his seat. The Electoral Reform Society also gives me hope. All of these things are concrete, statistical reminders about what proportion of the population of my country actually considers me disposable.
Nevertheless, we're still living in a political reality featuring alarming parallels to 1930s Germany. We've had a politician murdered by far-right terrorists; ongoing violations of the human rights of disabled people; TERFs (here's your connection); a government elected with a manifesto targetting Gypsies, Roma and Travellers (more).
In the first instance, I'm wanting to funnel my resources toward groups already under attack. Here's a starting point from me.
Organisations to give money to (many of which you can also volunteer with)
Petition- and letter-writing

In the first instance, I'm wanting to funnel my resources toward groups already under attack. Here's a starting point from me.
Organisations to give money to (many of which you can also volunteer with)
- the Roma Support Group, who do a variety of work nationally, including advocacy, education and research
- the Belfast Trans Resource Centre (Northern Ireland)
- Action for Trans Health
- Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants
- Benefits and Work, who I have absolutely relied on for every benefits application I've made
- Liberty, who work for human rights
- HOPE not hate, who work to counter fascist and racist politics in a high-impact, targetted fashion
- QueerCare Network
Petition- and letter-writing
Hosting
- Refugees at Home
- Abortion Support Network (within a 30-minute commute of bpas Richmond or Streatham, MSI Brixton or Ealing, or NUPAS Kingston)

Date: 2019-12-17 07:26 am (UTC)The 3 Million advocates for the rights of EU citizens living in the UK (which, contrary to popular belief, are in no way secure).
British In Europe advocates for the rights of British citizens living elsewhere in the EU, which after Brexit, will no longer be uniform and based on EU free movement rights, but rather vary according to the non-EU immigration policies of each individual EU country.
The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants does really good work for all migrants in the UK, including advocacy, legal advice, and supporting people made vulnerable by the hostile environment.
