Reading. My opinion on Conversations With Friends did not significantly change. Upon finishing it I abruptly realised that Maggie Stiefvater's Raven Cycle quartet was all released sufficiently long ago that I can just borrow electronic copies immediately! There's no queue! I don't have to place a hold! So I've inhaled the first one and three quarters, so far, because apparently I am very much in the mood for trashy YA.
Watching. Finished Good Omens! Am possibly going to do a rewatch, because Aziraphale and Crowley are soothing. V amused by the bonus New Bits.
Dreaming. This week's entertaining anxiety dream involved being rejected for a (free) summer internship at a culinary school, which I was particularly offended by given that the kitchen it was to take place in was (a) tiny and (b) being used as storage for miscellaneous large cardboard boxes (and also that the interviewer repeatedly lied to me), so I nicked a bunch of ingredients-I-need-to-acquire-for-Ethiopian-food-to-happen on my way out. I do not think my subconscious is being especially subtle about anything, really.
Cooking. First attempt at soda bread (in the absence of actual not-bread wholemeal flour, whoops), which more-or-less worked, albeit I made it a little too runny.
On Wednesday I had An Extended Procrastinatory Moment, resulting in using up all the celeriac. Served as: celeriac fondant (with shallots, garlic paste, sage, rosemary, thyme); celeriac purée with buttermilk; carrots and leek braised in the fondant liquid; and crispy julienned leek and celeriac. A poached himself local eggs to go with (because we are apparently those people now). I made a lot of washing up, but I am v glad to have Achieved Experimental Food.
Second attempt at soda bread also happened (on Saturday night), this time rosemary and raisin. Still a tentative success! I really do need to get some weak wholemeal flour, but I got liquid quantities closer to right this time.
Growing. The orchid! Has three flowers!
Observing. Chaffinch! Male chaffinch at the feeder on Tuesday. Such yell, wow. Have also spotted a female, so I'm assuming that's a breeding pair.
Poking. Shiny Mankey. AND A SHINY SWABLU that! has 82% IVs! Which is particularly !!! because I tapped on it as I was getting into the house last night, completely forgot about it, reopened the app this (Sunday) morning, went "... oh shit it's a shiny it... will axiomatically have fled or despawned or whatever OH WELL NEVER MIND" but no, apparently it was an automatic catch, so that's a thing I have now.

Date: 2019-06-23 09:49 pm (UTC)Yes! It's a celery cultivar that's been selected for root vegetable-y-ness, rather than stems & leaves; APPARENTLY this has also happened with parsley (not that I managed to plant any this year, because carpet, bah).
It sort of tastes like celery-flavoured parsnip, only, you know, if celery weren't horrid.

Date: 2019-06-24 12:53 pm (UTC)Ha, I find celery a really alarming texture in sensory terms -- I'm gradually getting better at tolerating it, but I do tend to need it either chopped very fine or cooked into oblivion!

Date: 2019-06-23 11:19 pm (UTC)Yep, that absolutely makes sense. It's not one I personally have sufficient investment in to be thrown by, and it's kiiiiiiiinda handwaved in universe, but honestly I am way the fuck more pro The Scorpio Races and the terrible werewolf teen romances than I am this series.

Date: 2019-06-23 11:26 pm (UTC)(Possibly I have too much investment in this, but then I don't have a Welsh name for this exact reason, and I have always wished my parents had sucked it up and given me a Welsh name.)
