I went to see it with me_and and sebastienne and shortcipher on, I think, the 24th of December; I walked out completely underwhelmed, completely unconvinced by the characters, and just not caring.

And then I read a bunch of meta, including all the discussion over at recessional's (no spoilers in post; spoilers in comments are ROT13ed) and nanila's not-a-review, which prompted the realisation that me liking the characters or finding them convincing wasn't the point, and then I cried a lot.

So! That's a thing. Noting for posterity, etc. Perhaps I will watch it again sometime soon.

That movie made me cry for all the reasons that it made recessional. It was a proper Star Wars movie.
