so. many. people.
Feb. 1st, 2016 06:07 pmToday has involved:
- being woken up by a phonecall from an unfamiliar number, which turned out to be UCH (the hospital that does the hypermobility clinic) offering me an appointment with hand therapy this afternoon
- unexpected e-mail from my counsellor shortly after having left the house checking in and letting me know he wasn't expecting to see me, which necessitated a reply
- handling the Virgin Media engineer coming and changing the flavour of the internet (and wanting me to explain in detail how the "apply baking soda to red wine stains" trick works), followed by a phone call from his supervisor asking if he could come and check up, and... it was an unexpected phonecall and I didn't have someone with me to sanity check so I said yes BUT I did, in fact, manage to handle the human interaction even if I didn't handle it well
- buying lunch at KGX because I was out of executive function, where I turned out to be threepence short of the cost of lunch in cash and had the staff insist on taking the cash rather than the card because "your smile's worth more than that", with all the associated mild crawling horror about being young and pretty and perceived as female and service interactions with dudes
- talking to strangers in the waiting area because they expressed interest in the knitting (I swear to god the fastest way to get strangers talking at you on the tube is to knit)
- actual hand therapy, followed by getting a time for the next appointment (also I Have Won an exoskeleton of my very own, one set of neoprene hand splinting/bandage aimed at stopping me hyperextending my thumbs while wheelchairing, one set of less grim wrist splints I'm likely to be more compliant about sleeping in, and a yellow sponge; I have learned which joint it is that's actually going when my thumb goes wrong, and the expectation that we'll discuss splinting appropriate for labwork plus some exercises when I go back)
- thanking RGK front-of-office for promising to chase up the workshop team's failure to reply to my e-mail
- e-mailing my institution's Disablity Advisory Service some paperwork and more details in the interests of sorting out my return (GOODNESS KNOWS)
- and now I am channeling the utter exhaustion into talking to Amazon customer services in the interest of attempting to get my e-reader wot has finally given up the ghost replaced, poor thing. (One round of talking to UK services; now talking to US customer services; and US customer services has just escalated me... TO A PHONECALL, AUGH)
- ... also I am managing tiny amounts of social chat but wow I am *flump*. Happily I am flumped on the sofa with a blanket having finished my hot chocolate and applied more painkiller. But: flump.

Date: 2016-02-01 09:13 pm (UTC)Seriously the hypermobility clinic is just... astonishingly smoothly run and organised. I wasn't supposed to have my first appointment til March 8th but they've just... slotted me into a bunch of late cancellations and it's all gone so smoothly and so well and I just... this is heading right to the top of my list of medical experiences, okay.
