Herein the three shots I'm happiest with from the most recent roll of film. The film stock was a little sadder (next lot will likely be worse, as it's 10 years old and salvaged from my grandfather's freezer ;), so please to forgive that.

Half of this film was shot by [personal profile] noldo on Our Great Malaysian Daytrip and is FLOWERS, and those will get uploaded early next week.

The view from the kitchen window in college. I really like rooftops, and I really like repeating patterns, and I really like bare trees, and basically I really liked that kitchen, okay.

A chance arrangement of glasses at the UCPO annual dinner. I didn't get the depth of focus right: I'd wanted the candle at the back to be less of an unidentifiable splodge. Rendered B&W after the fact in the GIMP, because the actual colours are all far too yellow (yes yes I know this is what I have filters for).

These are all fantastic shots.

The composition on the rooftop shot is just perfect. If it had included anything else, I think it would have detracted from it. The tree out there is an *excellent* thing to include -- all that human construction and yet here is still a tree!! The repeating patterns of roof tiles and chimneys works really well. The viewer is led through the image nicely, and there is something of interest in each step of the way. Well done, indeed.

The glasses shot works extremely well in B&W -- I wouldn't have thought of doing it in colour, even, as the shapes are the most important part of that still life. I agree that making the background less in focus would be a good thing. (I can do stuff like that in photoshop, I imagine Gimp can do it as well.) The candle actually doesn't bother me as much as the figure on the left; I'd like to see that much less distinct.

The last one works less well for me, but that's most likely because I haven't got a personal relationship with the plants. :) Nevertheless, it is a good study composition; the repetition of the stalks works well, I think, while I not sure the position of the tree in the background is quite working for me, although the compliment of the red on the tree does work with the greenish-yellow of the plants in front. I might have gone for even less sky, although it does look like the foreground plants need the room.

Well done!!
